Social Studies Teacher - Middle & Upper Level (2024 – 2025 school year)

Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP), a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for girls in grades 6 - 12 located in Towson, Maryland, seeks a full-time teacher in our Social Studies Department for the 2024-2025 school year. This position will involve teaching sections of Upper Level Social Studies (2 classes) as well as courses in the Middle Level (3 classes), including, but not limited to, United States government, United States History, and World History. One of the sections may involve teaching in the Bette Ellis O’Conor Humanities Program. The Bette Ellis O’Conor Humanities Program is a community of scholars at Notre Dame Preparatory School dedicated to intellectual pursuit that transcends the boundaries of usual study. The program integrates curricula from across content areas, such as history, literature, religion, art and more, thus allowing students to study in a collegial and dynamic environment that elicits passion for ideas and learning. Two teachers from separate departments, such as English and Social Studies, coteach the courses.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Teach a total of five (5) class periods each day. 
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Social Studies department on developing/improving curriculum.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in the school community with other duties as assigned, such as advisory. 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in History or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Maryland State Teacher Certification preferred.  
  • Prior high school or secondary school Social Studies teaching experience preferred.  
  • A passion for teaching Social Studies to high school and middle school students.
  • Ability to integrate technology effectively into instruction.? 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the Social Studies department and the NDP community.
