This position blends direct, person-centered support for individuals with developmental disabilities with creative social media management to highlight Ability Matters’ mission and impact.

Position Summary

The Community-Based Social Media & Support Specialist will divide their time between:

  • 20 hours per week providing direct, community-based support to individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • 20 hours per week creating, managing, and executing social media content and campaigns that promote Ability Matters and our values of inclusivity, empowerment, and compassion.

    Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
    Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
    Location: Central Ohio (community-based work + remote/office for social media tasks)

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity-Based Support (50%)
  • Provide direct support to individuals with disabilities during community outings, social activities, and skill-building sessions.

  • Promote inclusion by fostering meaningful relationships and empowering individuals to actively participate in community life.

  • Support individuals in developing life skills, communication abilities, and self-confidence.

  • Apply person-centered practices that respect individual preferences, strengths, and aspirations.

  • Implement positive behavior support strategies with empathy, respect, and de-escalation techniques when needed.

  • Serve as a community ambassador for Ability Matters, raising awareness and promoting acceptance.

Social Media Management (50%)
  • Create and share engaging content that reflects Ability Matters’ mission and core values.

  • Develop and execute creative social media campaigns to raise awareness of our programs and services.

  • Engage with followers, respond to comments/messages, and build an active, inclusive online community.

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure consistent branding and messaging.

  • Track and adapt strategies based on social media trends and analytics.

  • Capture authentic photos/videos during community-based activities to highlight our work and impact.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or related field preferred.

  • Previous experience in direct support, community engagement, and/or social media management strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of major social media platforms and best practices.

Excellent communication and storytelling skills.

Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and switch between in-person and online tasks.

Passion for promoting inclusivity, empowerment, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a driving record with fewer than six (6) points.

Must pass a background check, drug test, and complete required DODD training.

Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, and assisting individuals during activities.

  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and assist individuals with physical needs.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, tolerating varying weather conditions and noise levels.

  • Occasional exposure to challenging behaviors and stressful situations.
