Social Media Coordinator – Co-op

Victoria, BC Intern $22.00/hour

Days/Hours of Work: Full-time Monday to Friday 9:00 to 5:00 (37.5 hours per week) Some weekend availability is required for special events 

Work Term: June 3rd to August 30th

POSITION SUMMARY:  
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Social Media Coordinator Co-op is a key contributor to the success of Beacon Community Service (BCS) social media communication. Using creative thinking and the ability to generate engaging content, they will develop a calendar of social media content for the next year and position BCS as an employer of choice. The Social Media Coordinator Co-op will document special events to be shared across Beacon’s social media. This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position and applicants must be between the ages of 15-30 to be eligible.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, develop a calendar of social media content for one year which includes evergreen dates, communications campaigns, special events and highlights for all programs and services
  • Follow community partners (e.g., Island Health, local governments, program partners, police, funders etc.), influencers (e.g., elected officials, senior leaders), funders and similar community organizations, and local press (like Peninsula News Review and Black Press). Actively tag and share their work to create engagement
  • Encourage staff and volunteers to follow Beacon Community Services on social media
  • Build and update the photo library with current, high-quality images accompanied by photo releases from volunteers/staff
  • Position Beacon Community Services as an employer of choice by demonstrating care, professionalism and focus on people, to attract new employees who want to have a positive impact
  • Employ storytelling and clear, concise writing to share stories of staff, volunteers and/or clients to demonstrate pride in service and care and impact of services
  • Use analytics to inform content and timing of posting
  QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program (Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Graphic Design, etc.)
  • Experience with social media management tools is considered an asset
  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment. This is a Canada Summer Jobs requirement
 SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  
  • Proficient in using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative thinking and ability to generate engaging content
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to identify social media trends and hashtags
