Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Equipment Operator to join our team at the Abbotsford Mission Recycling Depot. In this role, you will be cross-trained to safely operate multiple pieces of equipment, including skid steers, loaders, forklifts, and balers. You will play a critical role in moving, processing, and managing recyclable materials while ensuring safety, efficiency, and excellent customer service.
This position involves working in a noisy environment and in all types of weather conditions, always requiring adaptability and a strong focus on safety.
Position Description
- Safely operate equipment to move and load recyclable materials into the baler, and unload finished bales
- Operate equipment to load recyclable materials into containers and transport vehicles
- Perform daily safety inspections and follow all safe work practices and regulations when operating or working around equipment
- Check equipment regularly to ensure it is serviced and in good working condition
- Screen incoming recyclable materials and remove unauthorized or contaminated items according to operational procedures
- Assist with directing traffic and guiding customer vehicles for safe and proper unloading
- Support depot operations through manual tasks, including cleaning loading/unloading areas and maintaining a safe
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned and secured at the end of each shift
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, equipment use, and maintenance activities
- Provide friendly, helpful customer service by answering questions and assisting depot users
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall recycling depot operations
Skills & Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalency is an asset
- Previous experience in a recycling or waste facility is preferred
- Experience operating skid steers, loaders, forklifts, and balers is required
- Current valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- OFA and WHMIS knowledge preferred
- Equipment certification and TDG certification preferred
- Strong focus on safety, teamwork, and customer service
