Siloam Mission is a Christian-based non-profit service organization for Manitobans who have experienced homelessness and who struggle with mental health issues, physical and cognitive disabilities, addictions, or trauma. JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for being the first and primary contact for incoming goods, both purchased and donated.  The role involves receiving and storing goods within Siloam and expediting excess goods to partner organizations. As part of Siloam Mission’s mandate to be a connecting point between the compassionate and less fortunate, the incumbent is expected to facilitate volunteers whenever possible in the performance of their duties.  

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet donors and receive donations.
  • Accept, track, and process incoming donations.
  • Ensure food is being properly stored using safe food handling practices.
  • Organize and maintain warehouse space.
  • Pick up food from partner organizations with Siloam’s vehicle.
  • Receive and fill food orders from kitchen each morning.
  • Fill orders for other departments’ needs as required.
  • Keep work and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Assist other departments in Siloam with moving goods as required.
  • Taking out garbage and recycling.
  • Maintain an inventory for stored goods (food, clothing, etc.)
  • Other duties as required by the position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE  

  • Must have the ability to lift, bend, push, heavy loads throughout the day.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships within Siloam departments.
  • Ability to work with the inner city or form relationship with outside organizations.
  • Problem solver and has strong ability to make quick decisions under stressful situations.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency for organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Good organization and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to lead a small team of temporary workers or volunteers.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS

  • 1-2 years of work experience in a related role (Shipping, Warehouse).
  • Team-first mindset.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
  • Forklift certification is an asset.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate is an asset.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driving abstract.
  • Ability to drive a cube van is an asset.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Strong ability to manage and organize large volumes and types of goods.
  • Able to work both independently and as a team.
  • Ability to take initiative.

RELATIONSHIP 

  • Works closely with several departments, especially Kitchen and Clothing staff.
  • First contact with donors and delivery drivers.
  • “Face of Siloam” when performing pick-ups with Siloam vehicle.
  • Will be forwarded phone and email inquiries concerning donations.

WORKING CONDITION 

  • HOURS OF WORK: Tuesday - Saturday,  8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (40 hrs/wk)
  • Lifting of up to 50 lbs. + frequently.
  • Work requires standing and walking over extended periods of time.
  • Working in a warehouse setting, including freezers and coolers.
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions will be required occasionally.
  • Will need to use forklift and drive van occasionally.
  • Will need to clean (sweep, mop, disinfect, etc.) work areas as needed.

WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY

The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.

  • Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health
  • Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
  • Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.

Salary: $41,768 – $56,509
