Title:                            Senior Manager, Communications and Development
Location:                     Surrey, B.C
Position Status:           Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
Reports to:                  Chief Executive Officer
Salary Range -         CAD 79950.00  -CAD 96896 .00


Scope and Purpose:

The Senior Manager, Communications and Development will play a key role in advancing the mission and impact of Phoenix Society by leading the development and execution of comprehensive internal and external communication strategies and activities.  They will be responsible for overseeing fund development activities, including grant writing, fundraising and performance monitoring, to support Phoenix’s programs and services. 

The Senior Manager will also play a crucial role in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, including donors, partners, employees, volunteers and the general public.


Key Responsibilities

Communications:

•         Develops and drives Phoenix’s internal and external communication strategy.
•         Identifies and leads the development of communications opportunities through, but not limited to our networks, our website, our social media presence, and targeted media outreach.
•         Leads the development of ongoing narrative work, ensuring Phoenix’s brand voice maintains integrity and credibility in all materials and across all platforms.
•         Leads evaluation of communications work and integrates learnings into ongoing strategy and narrative development.
•         Communicate effectively impacts and outcomes of Phoenix’s work to a variety of stakeholders.
•         Draft written materials, prepare presentations and to communicate our story.
•         Manage all company’s press releases by effectively describing and promoting our products and services.

Community Relations: 

         Identify and pursue opportunities for third-party events and liaise with organizers.
•         Knowledge of community groups and strong ambition to connect with stakeholders.
•         Provides expertise in the development, organization, administration and execution of special events and keeping pre and post event details.
•         Contributes to and helps implement plans to engage stakeholders and volunteers.
•         Establish successful working relationships both internally and externally.
•         Identify and implement improvement strategies and best practices.
•         Participate in the implementation of the communications and marketing plans for each event in concert with the Events Coordinator.
•         Manage media relations for Phoenix and effectively inform and promote our brand, mission, values and product.

Fund Development:
•         Develop and implement a successful annual fundraising plan in consultation with the CEO and Board to set fundraising targets, with a focus on grant writing, identification of prospective donors, and donor stewardship.
•         Ensure a steady flow of proposals, reports and stewardship information for current and prospective funders, on a demanding schedule.
•         Research and write grant applications, reports and other correspondence for prospective and current donors, government, foundations and corporate funders.
•         Identify, research and acquire prospective individuals, corporate donors and sponsors. Develop and implement campaigns to reach new prospects, targeted by sector.
•         Produce in–house fundraising appeal and campaigns to donors using various computer programs and applications and social media.
•         Lead preparation of newsletters, annual reports, and social media content.
•         Adhere to the guiding principles and policies of Phoenix.
•         Undertake fundraising-related duties as needed.

Quality Assurance:

·       Ensures that Phoenix fundraising programs operate in compliance with Phoenix Society Policy and Procedures and all relevant health and safety legislation.
•         Leads to maintaining high standards of work quality.
•         Participates in Society’s strategic planning. 

Qualifications and Experience

·       A post-secondary degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related.
·       5-7 years' experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations. Experience in the non-profit, human services, academic or public sector is an asset.
·       Proven experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
·       Excellent time and resource management techniques.
·       Ability to build engagement and impact with social media content.
·       Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to write in a variety of styles for a range of audiences. Excellent editing and proofreading skills, with an impeccable eye for detail and accuracy.
·       Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
·       Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
·       Ability to work independently, while being a collaborative and communicative team member.
·       Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
·       Experience creating multimedia and shareable graphics.
·       Ability to work independently, while being a collaborative and communicative team member.
·       Proficient with social media platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube.
·       Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and multimedia practices are assets.
·       CFRE certification an asset
