Summary:

The Senior Family Resource Worker supports parents and caregivers of children from birth to six years old in the Bellies and Babies and Parent-Tot programs. This role fosters a safe, welcoming environment, promotes healthy pregnancies, and improves maternal outcomes. Responsibilities include creating a nurturing, stimulating play and learning environment, providing hands-on support, and offering valuable information to enhance parenting skills and strengthen family relationships. Reporting to the Program Lead, this role also covers the Program Lead during absences.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for parents, caregivers, and children, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Plan and provide engaging play and a learning environment that supports the developmental needs of children.
  • Shares information and resources with families on maternal and infant nutrition, infant care, care, development, and breastfeeding. Facilitate discussions that enhance parents' understanding and confidence in these areas.
  • Encourage parents to actively engage in play activities with their children, offering constructive feedback and suggestions as needed to support positive interactions and development.
  • Assists Lead in tracking and evaluating program outcomes, maintaining detailed daily, monthly, and quarterly statistics. Prepare and submit program reports, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Assist with food preparation and serving of lunch to program participants, ensuring food safety is met
  • Work respectfully and effectively with diverse populations, including Indigenous families, newcomers and the broader community, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and awareness
  • Role model family-cantered strategies when supporting parents to understand and respond to their child's behavior.
  • Follow established protocol to ensure all toys and equipment meet safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues to deliver services that align with the agency's mission and program mandate, ensuring high quality outcomes.
  • Adhere to SCCSS policies and compliance requirements, represents SCSSS professionally, stay informed about programs, and assist with duties to support organizational efficiency. Assist in program administration and monitoring programs) expenditures
  • Represent the program(s) and/or SCCSS on committees and advocacy groups in the community in program (s) related areas
  • May actively participate in recruiting, selecting, orienting, and coaching staff and volunteers of the program in consultation with the Program Lead
  • May provide reference and guidance to staff and volunteers of the program in interpreting relevant policies and procedures
  • Manages staff scheduling when Lead is away
  • Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Degree (preferred), Early Childhood Education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a family-centered program, with a strong understanding of and hands-on experience supporting vulnerable families.
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, childhood development, breastfeeding, pregnancy issues, and experience working with women both pre-and-postnatal.
  • Experience working across cultures respectfully.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid (including infant CPR) required.
  • Successful result and maintenance of Criminal Record check.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle is required to attend programs across the Coast.
  • Group facilitation skills are an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • This position works in a fast-paced community setting that includes a kitchen, multipurpose room, and indoor and outdoor play areas. This position works in a variety of environments and in a variety of communities including Gibsons, Sechelt and Pender Harbour.

  • Lifting and moving of lunch supplies, office supplies and other related equipment Moving of furniture, setting up tables and chairs Lifting and holding of babies and children
  • Sitting and playing on the floor with infants and children
