Security Console Operator
The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is currently accepting applications for a Security Console Operator. This role is essential to the safety and protection of the museum’s collection, visitors, and staff. The Security Console Operator is responsible for receiving and dispatching security operations within both the museum and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Duties include monitoring alarms, dispatching responses, logging activities, and ensuring a safe environment.
This position specifically covers the overnight shift, 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and requires flexibility to occasionally assist with rotating shifts or special events as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Monitor security and fire alarm computer systems during assigned shifts.
Conduct full investigations and prepare detailed reports of any alarms or system faults.
Verify all alarms both electronically and physically at the beginning and end of each shift.
Maintain a detailed security log of all activities affecting the safety of the museum, garden, collection, visitors, and staff.
Manage access at the employee entrance, including logging keys and controlling NOMA vehicle access.
Receive and distribute packages to appropriate recipients.
Monitor the entrance and exit of employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors.
Ensure proper opening and closing of the loading dock.
Answer and route telephone calls to appropriate parties.
Operate radio and/or telephone equipment to communicate critical information.
Monitor a large CCTV network and document any irregularities.
Provide support during museum events, working professionally with staff, vendors, and guests.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred: At least one (1) year of dispatch and/or security experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in computer use, including keyboard operation and logging systems.
Ability to write clear, detailed, and accurate reports.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or emergency situations.
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Physical Requirements:
This is primarily a sedentary position with some physical activity. Requirements include (but are not limited to):
Sitting for extended periods of time.
Walking and occasionally standing.
Manual dexterity (finger use for keyboard/data entry).
Talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
Working Conditions:
Standard museum and office environment.
Regular overnight schedule: 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
May include weekends, holidays, and occasional rotation for coverage or special events.
