JOB SUMMARY
The Scorekeeper supports the Parks and Recreation Department’s mission to provide safe, fair, and enjoyable recreational sports experiences. This role ensures accurate game documentation, manages timekeeping, and facilitates communication between officials, coaches, and site staff. The Scorekeeper is a key contributor to the integrity and organization of youth and adult sports leagues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Game Preparation
  • Arrive early to prepare scorebooks and substitution sheets.
  • Record team rosters including player names and jersey numbers.
  • Coordinate with referees regarding substitution timing and game logistics.
Game Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of: 
  • Running score and team totals
  • Individual player points
  • Individual and team fouls
  • Possession arrow status
Timekeeping and Clock Operation
  • Operate game clock and scoreboard equipment.
  • Set and reset time per quarter.
  • Track and update scores based on referee signals.
  • Correct scoring errors and ensure scoreboard accuracy.
Player Participation Monitoring
  • Ensure all players meet minimum playtime requirements: 
  • Youth leagues: 12–16 minutes depending on game length
  • Record substitutions and verify equitable playtime.
Communication and Compliance
  • Notify coaches of players with excessive fouls.
  • Provide foul and score updates upon request.
  • Submit completed scorebooks and substitution sheets to site staff post-game.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 15 years (18+ preferred for adult leagues)
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in recreational sports or scorekeeping is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Comfortable using digital scoreboard systems and mobile apps

Compensation
$10.00 per game up to 3 games per day
