The Opportunity
Based in Kentville, Nova Scotia, this position will work very closely with YREACH Settlement staff and local YREACH language team, as well as community organizations. This position work on site in, and with, schools to provide practical settlement and integration supports to newcomer children, youth, and their families as they settle into the school system and community. We are looking for someone with initiative, is a great relationship builder, passionate about working with families and making a difference!
Responsibilities
- Providing individual and group settlement support in schools
- Building effective professional relationships with all stakeholders
- Engaging schools through awareness raising, meetings and building connections
- Facilitating problem solving using solution focused approaches
- Supporting clients to access supports and opportunities within the school system
- Identifying and supporting opportunities to engage newcomer contributions
- Providing referrals to community resources
- Reporting qualitative and quantitative information on work activities
Qualifications & Skills
- Being multilingual is an asset
- Combination of education and experience working in community setting
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, meeting deadlines
- Understanding of, and experience with, the Nova Scotia school system – policies, procedures, expectations etc.
- Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information
- Excellent data management skills and Microsoft 365 Skills
- Experience working with and providing service to diverse populations
- High level of initiative is needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated situations
- Experience delivering presentations and workshops
- Experience working with children providing creative group activities
