The Town of Cohasset, an active waterfront community on the South Shore, is looking for a School Crossing Guard for the Police Department. PT 5 Step 12 $23.12 per hour 20 hours per week.

o   School Days (Mornings)  8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

o   School Days (Afternoons) 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This position will begin in the 2025–2026 academic year.

Position Summary:

The Town of Cohasset is seeking a responsible and safety-conscious individual to serve as a School Crossing guard. Under the supervision of the School Resource Officer, the Crossing Guard plays a critical role in ensuring the safe crossing of pedestrians particularly school children, at designated school crossing locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Arrive on time and remain at the assigned crossing post until all students have safely crossed.

Safely stop vehicular traffic using an issued handheld "STOP" sign to allow pedestrians to cross.

Ensure children cross only at designated crosswalks and never enter the roadway while traffic is moving.

Prioritize student safety at all times, remaining alert and attentive during duty.

Follow all directives from the School Resource Officer or their authorized representative.

Maintain possession of a working cellular phone and call 9-1-1 in case of emergencies.

Refrain from physical contact with individuals unless in emergency situations requiring immediate intervention.

Observe and report traffic violations or serious hazards to the Commanding Officer in writing.

Report student safety rule violations to the school principal and document them with the Commanding Officer.

Treat all students with equal attention, care, and professionalism.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with children, parents, school staff, and the public.

Punctual and dependable.

Ability to remain attentive, alert, and focused in all weather conditions.

Must possess a working mobile phone during duty hours.

Ability to pass a background check and complete any required training.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.

The role requires standing for extended periods and moderate physical activity such as raising a stop sign and guiding pedestrians.
