General Job Description

The Assistant Director is responsible for the management of their center in the absence of the Center Director and supports and aids the Director in the following duties.

Supervisory Responsibilities

·       Assist with hiring, orientation and training center staff.

·       Supervise and observe performance, support staff to reach annual evaluation goals.

·       Serve as a role model and support staff to develop strong, positive relationships with each child.

·       Schedule, plan and facilitate staff and team meetings.

·       Supervise and manage morning care program.

Programmatic Responsibilities

·       Assure that the Agency’s Mission and Statement of Values are adhered to in the daily center operation.

·       Development of an environment that supports the social/emotional development of all children, emphasizing the development of self-confidence, interpersonal skills and decision-making ability.

·       Establish and maintain behavioral limits and center order based on Stars guidelines.

·       Supervise activity planning and the learning environment. Ensure compliance with all licensing and Stars standards.

·       Develop an annual center Action Plan, using program evaluation and youth outcome data.

·       Develop special programming for both older and younger children as assigned by Center Director.

·       Develop/monitor homework contracts, communicating directly with parents.

·       Assure regular and frequent communication with parents about children’s achievement, activities and concerns.

·       Identify children with behavior and/or developmental concerns, confer with Center Director and center Family Support Clinician.

·       Assess youth outcomes and submit data to Program Director.

·       Work in partnership with parents, Family Support Clinician, and other educational, health, social service providers to implement team plans.

·       Develop strong working relationships with school principals and classroom teachers.

·       Encourage and facilitate parent involvement including organization of periodic parent meetings and activities.

·       Develop weekly menus that meet or exceed USDA nutritional requirements.

·       Assure smooth transition for children from/to other Agency programs.

Administrative Responsibilities

·       Assure that the center meets all licensing and Stars standards.

·       Maintain administrative records and submit paperwork as needed in compliance with licensing and agency standards.

·       Coordinate staff vacation coverage and arrange substitutes.

·       Supervise maintenance and scheduling of vehicles to transport children. Monitor van drivers to assure safety of children.

·       Meet with parents as part of the enrollment process and explain the program. Develop a starting plan with parents of enrolling children.

·       Order food, equipment, and supplies. Monitor the center’s budget.

·       Agency fundraising and advocacy activities.

Facility Responsibilities

·       Assure that the entire center is a creative learning environment, which is clean, organized and well-maintained.

·       Coordinate and monitor cleaning and maintenance of classrooms and playground.

·       Any other tasks assigned by the Center Director.

Qualifications

·       BA or BS in a related field preferred.

·       Two years' experience working with school-age children.

·       One year experience supervising adults.

·       Experience interacting with people of diverse backgrounds.

·       Strong interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.

·       Commitment to the Agency’s mission of supporting low-income families and at-risk children.

·       Must be willing to obtain 7D license.

Reports To:  Center Director
