SUMMARY

A Safety Supervisor's primary responsibility is ensuring a safe and healthy workplace, maintaining compliance, and promoting a safety culture within the organization. They are tasked with identifying and mitigating risks, developing and implementing safety programs, conducting training, and investigating incidents to prevent future occurrences. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Promotes company safety culture through coaching, development, influence, and training.

·         Acts as subject matter expert liaison for health and safety for the Company.

·         Prioritizes, as needed, the daily, weekly, and monthly goals and tasks.

·         Develops and maintains site specific documentation and templates that include the Site Safety Plan, Site Rules, Emergency Response Plans, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).

·         Leads safety related discussions at Tailgate Meetings and Safety Committee Meetings.

·         Delivers training on Safety Initiatives, Work Procedures, Work Instructions, and regulatory requirements.

·         Inspects work areas to verify consistency with procedural and regulatory requirements.

·         Communicates safety related incidents to Management.

·         Conducts Incident Investigations to determine Root Cause and recommend appropriate Corrective Actions Develops Incident Reports to support findings from incident investigations.

·         Oversee workers’ compensation claims.

·         Assists in the development of “Safety Alerts” related to incident to help create awareness across the business organization.

·         Drives implementation of proposed Corrective Actions to completion.

·         Maintains incident data and safety metrics to compile reports.

·         Facilitate audits and inspections by third party and regulatory agencies.

·         Reinforces safe behaviors and correct “at risk” behaviors.

·         Presents, supports, and leads-by-example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude.

·         Assists in development of Risk Assessments and Work Instructions.

·         Procures, distributes and maintains safety related tools and equipment.

·         Work effectively with others in a team-based environment to accomplish company goals and to identify and resolve problems.

·         Lead, Mentor, and Assign tasks to Safety Tech.

·         Good attendance is mandatory.

·         Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.

·         Comply with all company rules, safety policies and procedures.

·         Ability to continually prioritize tasks to be completed as required.

·         Self-starter and multi-task oriented. Able to work independently, as well as with others, as needed.

·         Work effectively to identify and resolve problems or issues.

·         Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Skill sets must

include business related computer literacy, analytical problem solving, excellent verbal and written communication, and multi-task-oriented skills.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety is required. Bachelor’s Degree Preferred. Five or more years of Industry Safety experience is preferred.

·         FA/CPR/AED Certification is preferred.

·         CHST/CUSP/OHST/NCSO Certification is desirable.

·         511 Certification is desirable.

·         OSHA 501 Certification is desirable.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must possess the ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group situations with customers, industry groups and co-workers; utilizing methods to include, but not limited to verbal presentations or conversations plus telephone and email communications.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding while carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form plus the ability to create and interpret documents correctly.  Possess the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in various situations.

The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Proper lifting techniques required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment is on the production floor, which is dynamic and fast-paced, with occasional time spent in an office setting. Mandatory safety protection (PPE) and caution will be required while in the plant.
