Safety Specialist
Summary of Overall Job Functions:
The successful candidate will have a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management, with experience in implementing and managing HSE strategies and plans. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
· Execute the Health and Safety Plan for the business and facility according to policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while striving to achieve “best/better practices” and incorporating Lessons Learned.
· Inspect facility and workstations, evaluate practices, procedures to access risk and adherence to guidelines according to daily/weekly/monthly compliance requirements.
· Assist Facility Manager and Safety Supervisor in improving safety focus and culture across the facility
· Support and manage OSHA mandated safety drills for the business such as emergency evacuation drills and severe weather drills
· Facilitate the incident investigation process and assist Safety Supervisor in safety related record keeping
· Maintain required paperwork to follow EHS standards.
· Perform required standard of work observations and audits.
· Support Team Members in completing their EHS responsibilities.
· Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees and contractors
· Train employees on health and safety matters for the facility and production specific activities, injury prevention, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for handling chemicals, equipment, and other safety related items such as hazardous communication, and emergency action programs, in addition to incident prevention.
· Conduct safety orientations and task specific training for workers before they begin working in the facility or prior to changing tasks.
· Demonstrate the ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and equipment for potential EHS concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses. Review and support Facility in developing JSAs as per the Job requirements for the shop
· Assist in safety-huddles prior to the start of each shift to include stretch-n-flex program. Support Safety Committee activities and encourage employee engagement through Safety Initiatives
· Assist operations in maintaining the facility’s chemical storage, universal and hazardous waste containment, SPCC plans, SDSs, and participate in platforms such as BIM or Procore, be adept in working with different forms of technology and applications
· Ability to work well with facility teams including management, vendors, and trade partners to encourage employee participation and drive continuous improvement of facility safety.
· Assist in incident and near miss investigations to identify root cause and corrective action recommendations to upper management concerning safety and health issues that may affect the facility and the company.
· Provide expert advice and guidance on HSE matters to the facility and management team
· Develop and implement HSE procedures, policies, and guidelines
· Coordinate and lead HSE inspections, audits, and investigations
· Manage relationships with contractors and third-party suppliers
· Conduct site visits and assessments to identify potential HSE risks and hazards

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in an EHS-relevant field Or High school or equivalent diploma with 2-3 years of relevant work experience with progressive responsibilities in Safety
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations in manufacturing environment
- Experience working with Occupational Medical service providers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Competence to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a professional capacity
- Able to maintain confidentiality in matters involving personnel issues
- Ability to develop and implement department objectives and strategies
- Available to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and/or weekends
