ProChem is looking for a Safety Assistant Professional to help support workplace safety by helping implement protocols, conducting inspections, documenting incidents, and training staff, focusing on administrative tasks, hazard identification, compliance with regulations, and maintaining safety records. As well as fostering a safe working environment and reduce risks, requiring strong organizational, communication, and detailed-oriented skills. This position will work out of the headquarters in Elliston, VA. 

The successful candidate must: be able to perform the required job duties, meet the required education and experience criteria, posses the required skills, meet the physical demands of the position, and commute reliably to the work location for the specified scheudle. Preference will be given to candidates who possess skills and training marked as "preferred."

Essential Functions

  • Help identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and heath problems. 
  • Work with the Safety Manager to develop actions plans and track execution.
  • Assist the Safety Manager with managing employee training program; conducts employee training applicable safety standards. 
  • Review safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Help conduct safety and security inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations. 
  • Inspects safety equipment; recommends replacements. 
  • Reviews accidents and incidents reported by employees and visitors to the facility. 
  • Develops and maintains a system to report, monitor, and correct safety problems. 
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures. 
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. 
  • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting. 
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee.
  • Conducting or creating investigations related to accidents and incident reporting. 
  • Collaborates with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) representatives and internal safety staff during formal plant audits and inspections. 
  • Adopts a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to employees via safety bulletins, documentation, and training meetings. 
  • Performs others related duties as assigned. 
  • Adhering to company policies and procedures. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe situations. 
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with employees to foster open communication. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite or related software. 
  • Proficient with computer based work and related operating software. 
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity.
  • Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Training, Education, & Experience

  • Associate's degree in Health and Safety or a related field desired but not required
  • HAZWOPER 30 Certification preferred 
  • 3+ years of related experience required
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience in the chemical industry preferred
  • Experience in water treatment industry preferred

 Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • This position requires sitting or standing for extended periods in front of a computer or projection screens and the extended use of their voices. 
  • Daily computer use is required, and sitting, standing, and walking are parts of the daily demands. Occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 20 pounds is necessary. 
  • This position may require flexibility in work hours, vacation, and other schedule considerations in order to successfully support company needs. 
  • Telephone and electronic communication is an essential part of the job expectations.
