Housekeeping/Room Attendant
JOB DUTIES, MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (MONTH/YEARS EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, SPECIAL LICENSE, ETC):
SUMMARY: Room attendants must clean hotel rooms and suites, including bathrooms and kitchens; demonstrate good customer service skills; complete tasks in a timely manner; lift and move heavy items (sometimes upstairs); interact with guests in a professional /helpful manner; operate vacuums and use different types of cleaning solutions, and work effectively as a part of a team. Room attendants may contribute to laundry duties including washing and drying of linens and towels. Room attendants must clean all other areas of the hotel as may be assigned. Room attendants must also remove trash and dirty linens from hotel rooms and perform all other duties as assigned.
Professional Experience
- Preferably 6 month’s experience in cleaning or janitorial related field
Hotel Experience
- Wear room attendant hotel uniform per hotel standards; adhere to professional grooming standards
- Sign in and out on the sign in sheet daily with the proper time
- All housekeeping keys must be signed in and out daily
- While you are working the keys must remain with you at all times. Don't let anyone in a room who says they lost or don't have their key. At the end of the day, the keys must be turned in and locked up
- Get the proper amount of supplies to clean your rooms with and stock your carts neat
- Clean rooms per hotel standards and the hotel provided training, to include but not limited to:
a. making beds
b. dusting
c. sweeping
d. cleaning the TV screen
e. cleaning the windows
f. cleaning the pictures
g. cleaning the mirrors
h. wastebaskets must be empty
i. telephones must be cleaned daily.
k. cleaning the bathroom
o. If you see a purse or wallet in the room, tell your supervisor and they will tell you what to do. She will tell you to have someone clean the room with you or tell you to leave the room alone until the guest returns
p. Sweepers must be taken care of at the end of the day
q. Carts must be cleaned off from garbage and wet rags. Supplies must be stocked neatly
- All lost and found items must be turned in as soon as found according to hotel procedures
- Sweep hallways in front of your rooms daily.
- No housekeeper is to ever smoke in any area or rooms except in designated area by the Executive Housekeeper or Management
- Heavy duty cleaning will be assigned to everyone at certain times of the year by the Executive Housekeeper or Management

- Emotionally competent; able to effectively manage disruptive emotions and impulses; able to stay composed, positive, and unflappable even in trying moments while thinking clearly and remaining focused under pressure
- Engage every guest in conversation and recognition
- Resolve any guest issue immediately
- Promote the hotel by demonstrating a high level of positive attitude and energy to serve our guests
- Ability to anticipate guests’ needs
- Represents the hotel to the guest throughout any stage of the guest's stay

Skills
o At least average oral communication
- Requires walking and repetitive motions, and may on occasion have to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
- Able to stand, sit, and walk, for more than 4 hours
Education
- Background screening for previous criminal history
- Employment may be contingent upon at least 80% score on test on hotel’s reservations system (PMS) after training
- At least a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Participate in all training as assigned
