Job Title: Independent Living Aide
Location: Western Hills Retirement Village
Job Type: PRN
Shift: varied (7a-3pm or 3p-10p)
Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Independent Living Aide to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support and care to residents in our Independent Living (IL) community, helping them maintain a safe, dignified, and independent lifestyle for as long as possible.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist residents with daily personal routines, including dressing, bathing, and medication reminders.

Provide companionship and foster trusting relationships with residents.

Perform light housekeeping duties such as bed-making and trash removal.

Escort residents to meals and activities or deliver meals as needed.

Monitor residents’ well-being and report concerns or changes in behavior to the Charge Nurse or IL Director.

Collaborate with coworkers to enhance resident quality of life.

Accurately complete incident reports and maintain documentation.

Communicate effectively and respectfully with residents, families, staff, and visitors.

Support front desk operations during staff breaks or as needed.

Adhere to all safety, infection control, and HIPAA regulations.

Attend required in-service programs and staff meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum of a 10th grade education required.

STNA certification preferred; experience as a caregiver, home health aide, nurse aide, or medical assistant will be considered.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Compassionate, patient, and empathetic demeanor.

Ability to respond calmly in high-stress or emotionally charged situations.

Physically able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs unassisted and 175 lbs with assistance.

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, stair-climbing, and assisting residents.
Working Conditions:

Supervised by the IL Charge Nurse and Independent Living Coordinator.

May be exposed to emotionally distressed residents or family members.

Risk of exposure to infectious waste or diseases.

Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, holidays, and alternative shifts when needed.
