Hours/Shifts:

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Evaluate and document evaluations of referred residents in accordance with facility policies and procedures. - Provide appropriate treatment to help residents maintain or attain the highest level of respiratory function possible within the confines of his/her physical condition - Recommend and/or provide appropriate treatment, preventative measures to prevent decline in residents’ respiratory function. - Provide appropriate resident or caregiver education to help residents maintain or attain the highest level of respiratory function possible within the confines of his/her physical abilities. - Operate respiratory therapy equipment safely and effectively, - Maintain timely and accurate resident reports as required by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and third-party payers. - Meeting with and examining patients with pulmonary diseases, disorders or complications. - Conducing, performing and analyzing diagnostic and function tests to assess lung capacity and functionality. - Work with medical providers and nurses to create treatment plans. - Care for patients on mechanical ventilation, assisting with intubations, performing emergency procedures. - Perform Bronchopulmonary hygiene techniques, such as physiotherapy, coughing exercises, flutter, PEP therapy and vest airway clearance system. - Monitoring tube cuff pressure, equipment, vital signs, breathe sounds and arterial blood gas. - Perform invasive/noninvasive positive pressure ventilation. - Delivering hyperinflation therapy, including incentive spirometry and intermittent positive pressure breathing as well as performing arterial blood gases sampling/analysis. - Setting up and working mechanical ventilators, as well as providing aerosol and humidity therapy via facemask, trach collar and T-Piece. - Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
OTHER FUNCTIONS - Observe infection control procedures - Always follow Residents’ Rights policies. - Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision. - Observe all facility policies and procedures. - Assume duties related to completion of MDS assessments as assigned. - Complete documentation related to evaluations, treatment plans, MDS assessments, resident care plans and progress notes in a timely manner. - Participate in resident care, interdisciplinary care, and rehabilitation conferences as scheduled. - Participate in implementation of programs to improve resident care related to Quality Indicators. - Assume Quality Assurance duties as assigned - Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner. - Assume accountability for all data contained in the employees’ handbook - Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor. - Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality - Come to work in neat clean attire and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance. - Consistently work cooperatively with residents, residents’ representatives, facility staff, physicians, consultants, and ancillary services providers.
EXPOSURE RISK This position is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.
WORKING CONDITIONS • Works in well-lighted/ventilated office and therapy areas. • Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving intermittently during working hours. • Subject to frequent interruptions. • Involved with patients, family members, personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances. • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc. • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors. • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. • Must be constantly alert for patient’s safety. • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs. May involve overnight travel. • Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, odors, etc., throughout the workday. • Subject to lifting, carrying, and supporting patients.
Requirements:
· EDUCATION/LICENSURE • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. • Must be a graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Therapy • Must hold Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials. • Adult critical care experience is required. • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner verification license in state of practice. • Solid computer skills: prior experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
PHYICAL REQUIREMENTS • Must be able to move (walk, stoop, bend, stand, sit push, pull, and lift) intermittently throughout the workday. • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, clients, and team members. • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility. • Must be able to lift patients, medical equipment, supplies, etc. to 50 lbs.
