PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE

·          This position serves as “Direct Care” staff. Responsible for day-to-day oversight of resident’s daily care. Implementation of resident’s daily schedule including therapeutic outings and curriculum-based projects.

 QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS 

·          High school diploma or equivalent required.

·          Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in working with children.

·          Must be at least 21 years of age.

·          Must have access to reliable and safe transportation for self.

·          Maintain a working telephone or other reliable means of communication.

·          Must maintain a current drivers’ license and favorable driving record as condition of employment.

·          Must be willing to transport agency residents.

·          Must have a negative Pre-Employment & Random drug testing (pd by JP).

·          Must have a negative Pre-Employment TB test or chest x-ray (pd by JP). 

·          Must pass a pre-employment background check (including CBC, Texas Department of Public Safety’s criminal history database, DFPS Central Registry abuse/neglect and the FBI fingerprint if they have lived outside the state of Texas within the last five years).

·          Must be of high moral, ethical and professional character.

·          Ability to spend long periods of time standing, bending, stooping, and walking around the facility supervising the activities and movement of staff and children.

·          Must be willing to accompany children on field trips that require physical stamina to walk at least a mile. (If applicable)

·          Able to climb stairs repeatedly.

·          Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.

·          Willingness and ability to manage and work effectively with staff and co-workers.

·          Mature judgment and an ability to act in an independent, responsible manner in all matters relating to the care and safety of children.

·          Ability to engage and effectively communicate with people from diverse cultures and communities, as well as from different groups, including children, their parents, agency colleagues, Child Protective Services, staff, support staff members, supervisors, administrators, and people from the legal and judicial system. Present a good public presence.

·          Skills in organizing work in a responsible way within an environment with multiple challenges, priorities and time frames.

·          Ability to take directions from supervisor and other management staff.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

 

·         Knowledge of and compliance with TDFPS Minimum Standards and General Residential Operation Policies and Procedures.

·         Ensure General Residential Operation (GRO) is following Licensing and Contract requirements and General Residential Operation (GRO) Policies and Procedures.

·         Report promptly at the start of the assigned shift and remain on shift prepared to provide supervision of children and RCPs, as required by emergencies.  Duties must be conducted without interruption from outside sources.

·         Know and enforce House procedures ensuring that the hourly activities/operations of childcare functions are being carried out in compliance with licensing standards, contracts, and General Residential Operation (GRO) policies and procedures.

·         Always maintain and safeguard the confidentiality of resident information.

·         Responsible for own personal safety, your staff, your co-workers, and others that might enter your work area.

·         Report all maintenance requests to Program Manager.

·         Participate in shift meetings and in-service training.

·         Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.

·         Assist in household laundry of linens, children’s clothing and routine cleaning of bedrooms, bathrooms, dining room, kitchen, and living areas.  Ensure Residents adheres to Housekeeping Duties Check List.

·         Conduct proper shift change procedures, sharing with incoming childcare provider’s information about each child’s activities during previous shift and any verbal or written information or instructions given by other professionals. 

·         Assist with orientation and training of new RCPs.

·         Communicate any/all staffing concerns to Program Manager.

·         Communicate any/all volunteer concerns to Program Manager.

·         Communicate any/all resident concerns to Program Manager.

·         Monitor residents throughout shift for illness or changes in health conditions and promptly report to RCP Supervisor.

·         Be aware of the residents’ habits, interests, and any special needs.

·         Positively reinforce resident’s efforts and accomplishments.

·         Implement resident’s service plans.

·         Ensure daily progress notes are completed in a timely manner using ExtendedReach.

·         Ensure all volunteers sign-in daily.

·         Ensure all volunteers and wear nametags while on duty.

·         Dress attire should be appropriate to position and in accordance with JP’s Employee Handbook.

·         Assist with transporting children to activities and/or medical appointments. (As applicable)

·         Record supply and grocery need, on appropriate form, and submit it to Program Manager.

·         Coordinate daily care of residents with Program Manager.

·         Ensure at the start of your shift that you know which residents you are responsible for documentation.

·         Ensure that resident’s daily schedule/routine and any on-going activity is followed and check with Program Manager before any adjustment is made.

·         Ensure residents can play outdoors daily (weather permitting) or in the activities center.

·         Ensure logs are set up and completed daily for each resident in a timely manner (i.e. Medication Log, Visitation Log, etc.).

·         Maintain appropriate (child safe) storage of cleaning products.

·         Oversee safety and organization of outdoor play areas and equipment, before and after use.

·         Ensure residents eat meals and snacks prepared by the Food Service Manager, unless other arrangements have been made. 

·         Ensure sanitary disposal of diapers, food and other products.

·         Ensure trash cans are emptied and taken to trash dumpster prior to leaving shift (indoor and outdoor) and put a trash bag liner in the trash can.

·         Ensure clothing closets and other storage areas in the cottage are kept organized and well maintained.

·         Ensure adequate clothing and other items are secured for residents as needed in a timely manner.

·         Provide the level of supervision necessary to ensure each resident’s safety and well-being, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each resident’s on-going activity.

·         Be able to intervene when necessary to ensure each resident’s safety.

·         Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

·         Submit office supply list to Program Manager.

·         Other duties may be assigned by the Program Manager.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

·         Demonstrate knowledge of computer programs and databases including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and Publisher), Internet Explorer, and Kaleidacare.

·         Must have working knowledge of Internet and ability to correspond via e-mail

·         Must have excellent time management and organizational skills

·         Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Must have excellent telephone etiquette skills

·         Ability to present the organization in a professional image

·         Ability to speak with self confidence

·         Ability to solve problems and work independently

·         Ability to meet deadlines for agency

·         Ability to work as a team player and work effectively with other agency employees, outside visitors, and volunteers

·         Ability to mentor staff supervising the behaviors required to complete job requirements in a professional and effective manner.

·         Ability to adopt plans for changing needs must be flexible

 

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES/TRAININGS

 

·         Obtain 25 hours of CEU’s – Annually

·         Complete pre-employment of 40 supervised observation hours if no childcare experience within the past year.

·         Emergency Behavior Intervention Training – Bi-Annually (8 hours every 180 days)

·         Current CPR/First Aid Certification (Renew prior to expiration date)

·         Transporting Children Safely in Child Care (2.0 hours)

·         Pre-Employment Orientation (8 hours)

·         Pre-Employment General Pre-service (8 hours)

·         Pre-Employment Emergency Behavior Intervention Training (8 hours)

·         Work assignments are inside and outside.
