Position Description

Title:                       Resident Assistant

Reports to:              Director of Nursing

Scope of Position:

The dining room attendant is responsible for the overall meal management and dining room set-up for the lunch and dinner meals following all aspects of the Serene Services Meal Expectation.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language and to follow written and oral instructions.

Essential Functions:

The following are examples only and are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive; other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Maintain resident daily hygiene, ie: mouth care, combing hair, etc
  • Transport resident(s) from place to place ie: Hemodialysis Unit, escort to/from resident appointments, etc
  • Distribute/Collect meal trays from the resident room(s) and dining room
  • Remove all meal trays from the unit
  • Make resident beds, tidy the resident bedside table(s) and/or room(s)
  • Remove extra oxygen tank(s) inside resident room(s)
  • Monitor dining room when resident is present, especially residents at high risk for falls
  • Answer call light(s) and assist resident appropriately within scope of training
  • Maintain high level of character and professionalism
  • Work as a team member to provide the highest quality of care possible for each resident in our facility
  • Ability to handle multiple demands of the unit
  • Participate in all aspects of special events at all locations
  • Report any concerns noted to the supervisor
  • Report any maintenance issue
  • Incident/Accident reporting to the supervisor
  • Wear appropriate attire, appropriate shoes
  • Participate in emergency plan
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nursing Manager
  • Attends all meetings and/or training sessions as required
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor/administration Observes and reports on residents’ condition as required
  • Promotes a safe and clean environment
  • Performs incidental housekeeping or maintenance tasks as may be required to maintain a clean, hazard-free environment for residents, visitors and staff
  • Identifies and corrects unsafe work conditions and safety hazards
  • Has reviewed and understands Facility’s Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and knows the employee’s responsibility to enforce it
  • Ability to function as a Team Leader/Role Model
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned                                                                         

Continuing Education:

  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, and educational programs as required

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must function independently, have work flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with residents, family members, co-workers and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people.
  • May be required to lift equipment and occasionally move furniture.
  • Is subject to exposure of infectious waste and diseases, including, but not limited to the AIDS (HIV) and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Ability to communicate in English via telephone, in writing and verbally in conversation with different levels of staff, residents and their families and any outside customers.

  • Frequently required to stand and walk. Occasionally required to sit, use hands and/or fingers, reach with arms and hands, talk, hear, taste, smell and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Ability to utilize a computer, phone, etc for extended periods of time.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualified candidates will possess:

 

  • Previous healthcare experience preferred; not required
  • Should be able to work in collaboration with a Nursing Team
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • All candidates must have excellent written/verbal communication, documentation, and computer skills

 


Candidates will also have the ability to:

 

  • Lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Push/pull 30 pounds of force required to move medication carts and to transport residents in wheelchairs up and down the halls and handicap accessible ramps
  • Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk to and hear residents, family members and others
  • See details at a close range (within a few feet of the observer)
