Position Summary: 

As the Regional Executive Medical Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the medical operations and performance within your assigned region. You will work closely with physicians, FMDs (Facility Medical Directors), and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality patient care, adherence to protocols and best practices, and efficient operations. Your role will involve communication, leadership, policy development, recruitment, performance improvement, and integration of new physician groups during acquisitions. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Physician Management and Communication: 

  • Lead monthly FMD (Facility Medical Director) meetings and quarterly meetings for all physicians in your region.
  • Serve as the point of contact for physicians and FMDs, addressing their concerns and coordinating with leadership.
  • Provide timely updates and disseminate best practice recommendations to all physicians.
  • Educate physicians about documentation changes and ensure accountability. 

Reimbursement Optimization: 

  • Stay updated on the latest documentation changes with billing to optimize timely and appropriate reimbursement.
  • Inform physicians about billing and coding changes and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure physicians are keeping up with DMRs (Documentation and Medical Records). 

Metrics and Reporting: 

  • Track physician metrics and provide regular updates to EMDs (Executive Medical Directors) and FMDs.
  • Present actionable items based on metrics and updates to drive performance improvement. 

Recruitment and Orientation: 

  • Lead the recruitment process for new physicians, including locum tenens physicians when needed.
  • Collaborate with FMDs to fill scheduling holes promptly.
  • Lead the orientation and credentialing process for all new physicians. 

Licensing and Compliance: 

  • Ensure all physicians are up to date with licensing, CME (Continuing Medical Education), credentialing, re-credentialing, and other requirements.
  • Coordinate with the credentialing department to maintain compliance. 

Performance Improvement and Troubleshooting: 

  • Implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) to address any underperformance among physicians.
  • Monitor physician reviews and troubleshoot issues arising from patient-physician or physician-staff encounters. 

Medico-Legal and Corporate Compliance: 

  • Serve as the point of contact and lead for medico-legal issues related to physician care.
  • Coordinate with the medical malpractice carrier regarding potential cases.
  • Participate in corporate compliance and Medical Advisory Committee activities. 

Policy Development and Implementation: 

  • Lead physician policy development and ensure organization-wide implementation.
  • Anticipate and execute changes in policies, practices, and industry trends. 

Acquisition Integration: 

  • Act as a lead and point of contact during the acquisition of ER/Healthcare facilities in your region.
  • Coordinate strategies for integrating new physician groups under the consolidated ACH (Altus Community Healthcare) umbrella in a timely and functional manner. 

Position Requirements (Preferred): 

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) and board certification in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or relevant specialty.
  • Previous experience in medical administration, leadership, or executive management.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, policies, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of billing and reimbursement processes.
  • Familiarity with performance improvement initiatives and medico-legal issues.
  • Proven track record in policy development and implementation.
