Home to Olympic sport, high-performance training and public sliding experiences, WSC delivers sport programming, competitions and unforgettable guest experiences year-round.

We are currently hiring a Refrigeration Operator to join the team. You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Whistler Sliding Centre’s ammonia refrigeration plant and facilities.

Working closely with Refrigeration, Facility Operations, Track Operations and Guest Services, you will help maintain the systems and infrastructure that make world-class training, competition and public sliding possible. Job Overview
Position:
Refrigeration Operator
Department: Whistler Sliding Centre
Status: Regular and/or Seasonal, Part-Time or Full-Time
Schedule: Varied shifts, including weekends, evenings and nights however we aim for a regular schedule
Seasonal Term: October 2026 – April 2027 
Location: Whistler, BC 
Wage: $30.00–$35.00 per hour, dependent on experience
Night Shift Premium: Additional $5.00 per hour for employees committing to a 12-hour night shift schedule
Housing: Affordable staff housing available for Full-Time employees
Start date: Immediately for year-round employees

What You’ll Do
  • Safely and efficiently operate the ammonia refrigeration plant in accordance with industry standards and operational requirements.
  • Monitor plant conditions and respond to changes in operating conditions and system load demands to maintain continuous plant performance.
  • Complete thorough and effective shift handovers.
  • Monitor plant conditions through control systems, logbooks, work orders, shift reports and other established communication protocols.
  • Perform routine facility maintenance, including painting, HVAC maintenance, basic plumbing, mechanical system inspections and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to emergency situations and address immediate safety or operational concerns to minimize interruptions and maintain safe operations.
  • Assist with the daily preparation, repair and maintenance of the sliding track, including shovelling, sweeping, spritzing, slushing and scraping.
  • Support snow removal activities to maintain safe access to public and operational areas.
  • Assist with sled transportation and guest shuttle driving as required.
  • Ensure WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are followed.
  • Support WSC programs, training activities and domestic and international competitions.
  • Follow all operational and safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with the general upkeep of the Whistler Sliding Centre and support other departments as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

What You Bring
- College, university or trades education with relevant certifications.
- Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration Systems, Refrigeration Operator Certificate or higher certification recognized in British Columbia.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience as a Refrigeration Operator.
- Working knowledge of refrigeration plants, including ammonia refrigeration systems, procedures, equipment, maintenance, operating conditions and HVAC systems, preferred.
- Knowledge of plant instrumentation and control systems, such as Delta Controls, preferred.
- General knowledge of the Whistler Sliding Centre and the sports of bobsleigh, luge and skeleton is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required.
- Valid Class 4 BC driver’s license is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness to support other departments and team members as needed.
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Physical Requirements
  • Work outdoors in variable winter weather conditions.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
  • Distinguish colors used to monitor alarms and information on equipment, tools and computer systems.
  • Wear and work while wearing a full-face respirator.
