General Statement (Summary of duties and responsibilities):

 The Referral Response Coordinator (RRC) will be responsible for reviewing and triaging referrals. RRC will assess available clinical data found in the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) or bedside assessment to determine medical suitability for donation. The RRC will gather and communicate consistent medical information and in conjunction with the administrator on call, will determine initial suitability of potential organ and tissue donors. This will be done by communicating and interacting with hospital and physician staff in collaborative and professional ways. The RRC will evaluate specific case dynamics and determine which information is clinically significant and should be communicated to the hospital teams and will dispatch appropriate Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) staff on-site as needed. The RRC will encourage implementation of catastrophic brain injury guidelines as appropriate based upon their clinical judgement and will bridge the gap between medical team from initial referral to onsite evaluation to preserve the opportunity for donation.   The RRC will also conduct phone follow-ups on vented referrals as needed.

 Education and Work Experience Qualifications:

 

1.            A degree in one of the life sciences, example include, RRT, EMT, LPN, etc.

2.            A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a healthcare setting or equivalent medical experience.

3.            The ability to work with all levels of personnel in several health care settings including community donor hospitals and organ transplantation centers.  Must be able to work within the guidelines of these various institutions.

4.            Processes information quickly and accurately and makes sound decisions.

5.            The ability to keep accurate records, perform calculations and quantitative procedures and interpret data.

6.            The ability to meet the requirements of a variable and demanding call schedule is required.

7.            Maintain / have access to dependable secure high speed internet to ensure effective access to electronic communication / data / EMR’s.
