Quality Assurance Manager (Hope)
Rubicon Organics is expanding its mission to grow the best cannabis on Earth and for the Earth with the addition of our newly acquired indoor cultivation facility in Hope, B.C. This marks an exciting chapter in our journey as Canada’s leading house of premium cannabis brands, allowing us to scale production while continuing to deliver high-quality, organic-certified products to consumers nationwide.
As we grow, we’re looking for a Quality Manager to lead the QA function at our Hope facility. This role is responsible for building and leading an engaged, high-performing Quality Assurance team, designing and maintaining robust QA programs, and overseeing the review and release of all cannabis batches produced on site. The Quality Manager will also represent Rubicon during regulatory audits and play a key role in supporting or leading cross-functional strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain key licenses and certifications, including Health Canada licenses and Good Agricultural & Collections Practices (GACP) certifications.
Develop, direct, and oversee the completion of all QA programs including, but not limited to, batch release, recall management, deviation/CAPA/OOS management, document management, complaint management, change management, analytical testing & results management, regulatory & internal audits, vendor management, material & equipment qualification, and quality inspections.
Drive positive team culture and alignment with business objectives.
Lead internal and external audits.
Hire, onboard, and performance manage QA personnel, including goals and objectives setting, scheduling, performance feedback, and task management.
Approve each lot, batch, or product deemed acceptable to domestic or international standards prior to making the product available for sale, following the verification of the adherence to approved procedures, testing specifications, and quality standards.
Approve specifications, sampling instructions, test methods and other QA procedures.
Oversee the investigation all quality complaints and the implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
Approve the implementation of all standard operating procedures and other controlled process documents.
Initiate recall procedures and protocol if required with proper notification and documentation.
Ensure the activities conducted on site do not create risk to the health and safety of consumers, and taking immediate action in the event of identified risk.
Ensure that product, site, and equipment is produced, packaged labelled and stored in accordance with Good Production Practices (GPP), Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP), and other regulations/standards as required.
Drive quality investigations, continuous improvement projects, and root cause analyses.
Identify and execute opportunities for continuous improvement within the QA department, and other departments when aligned.
Administer various aspects of the Quality Management & document management systems.
Other tasks as assigned by corporate Quality and Operations leadership.
Requirements
2-10 years of experience in a quality or regulatory position within the cannabis, laboratory, food, pharmaceutical, or natural health product industries.
1-4 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial position, including experience assigning tasks & responsibilities, developing & tracking key performance indicators, and managing performance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education & experience relating to business leadership and/or quality assurance.
Existing Health Canada Security Clearance is a strong asset. Must be able to obtain Security Clearance if not already obtained.
Health Canada Quality Assurance Person (or alternate) designation is a strong asset. Must be able to obtain designation if not already obtained.
Knowledge of cannabis and cannabis quality metrics is considered an asset.
Experience in an GMP, GACP, ISO: 9001, ISO: 13485, and/or ISO: 17025 environments is considered an asset.
Excellent attention to detail.
Proven analytical & creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Proven track record of success in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines is required.
Knowledge of Cannabis Regulations is an asset.
