The Purchaser/Material Coordinator will be responsible for managing the procurement of goods and services, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining optimal inventory levels. This role requires a strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to manage relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will work remotely but must be willing to travel to sites or suppliers as needed (50%). 

 

Responsibilities

Description of responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies that support business goals, focusing on cost reduction, quality improvement, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers, maintaining a balance between cost-effectiveness and quality of goods and services.
  • Monitor and expedite orders to ensure timely delivery and resolution of any supply chain issues.
  • Conduct regular site visits and supplier audits to assess performance, compliance, and to build strong relationships
  • Verify stakeholder needs are met in terms of business needs and service requirements.
  • Coordinate approval and sign-offs.
  • Participate in the effective and efficient evaluation of proposals received.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other departments to understand their procurement needs and timelines.
  • Manage inventory levels, ensuring that stock is maintained at optimal levels to support ongoing operations without overstocking.
  • Implement and maintain procurement policies and procedures to ensure smooth, efficient, and compliant operations.
  • Analyze market trends and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost savings and supply chain improvements.
  • Resolve issues and disputes with suppliers related to quality, delivery, and billing, ensuring minimal impact on the company's operations.
  • Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, performance metrics, and cost analysis to management.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a purchasing/expediting role with preference working in Mining, Heavy Civil, Industrial Construction industry.
  • Proven track record of successful supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost reduction.
  • Trade certified in Materials/Part Technician, and or other trade.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using procurement software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements.
  • A problem-solver mindset, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to inform decision-making.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, excel, powerpoint.
  • Require strong office and field presence to address key materials Issues.
  • Supervisory experience preferred in warehouse setting, running a tool crib.
  • Experience ordering multi-discipline tools, materials, supplies for construction.
  • Experience In subcontracts and purchasing agreements.
  • Preparing requisitions and purchase orders.
 

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and willing to provide a current driver abstract.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime during peak or critical work periods.
