PT Robotics Coach Intern

The Robotics Coach Intern will support the AcademyACL Hawks Robotics Program by assisting with team practices, helping guide students in engineering design and programming challenges, and contributing to the overall development of a collaborative, student-driven robotics culture.

This internship is designed for former AcademyACL Hawks robotics team members who demonstrated leadership while on the team and who are interested in developing teaching, coaching, and STEM mentorship skills. The intern will work alongside the coaching staff to help prepare students for competitions, ensure safety, maintain equipment, and foster problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure student safety by setting expectations and supervising tool use.

  • Assist in planning and leading robotics team practices, workshops, and build sessions.

  • Mentor students in mechanical design, building, programming, and strategy using the team’s current robotics platform (B.E.S.T. and VEX V5).

  • Support student-driven engineering processes that encourage iterative design and critical thinking.

  • Help maintain robotics tools, materials, batteries, and field elements.

  • Provide guidance on teamwork, communication, and competition professionalism.

  • Offer input on strategy refinement, match preparation, and robot improvements.

  • Help new team members learn team processes, team collaboration and conflict resolution, safety protocols, and competition expectations.

  • Assist with documentation such as engineering notebooks or judging presentations, if applicable.

  • Collaborate with coaches to create a positive, inclusive, and growth-focused environment.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Must have previously been a member of the AcademyACL Hawks robotics team in good standing.

  • Must have held a leadership position in the AcademyACL Hawks Robotics teams.

  • Must understand and be able to explain the Engineering Process.

  • Must be able to use and supervise all of the tools in the engineering lab.

  • Must be able to provide positive and supportive feedback even in high-stress situations.

  • Must be 18 or older and pass a background check.
