We have an immediate opening for a Provincial Health Lead, who will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of our medical teams across the province. This position will require to do some travel between Edmonton, Calgary and Bragg Creek. 

Easter Seals McQueen Home: Easter Seals Alberta’s McQueen Home in Edmonton is a nine-bedroom home for individuals living with a disability, who, due to their high personal care needs, would be unable to live independently without support. These individuals are able to connect and actively participate in their community, including volunteering, attending courses, working part-time, and spending time with family and friends. The home offers safety and security for individuals by providing 24/7 staffing, including a medical team. The disabilities and medical conditions of the individuals vary and currently include Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, and Spina Bifida.

Easter Seals Camp Horizon:  Established in 1965 Easter Seals Camp Horizon specializes in an accessible and inclusive summer camp experience for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. We offer programs such as high ropes, rock climbing, camping, arts and crafts, leadership training and much, much, more!  Our campers are youth and adults with a variety of disabilities and medical conditions that requiring close attention and organization to meet their detailed medical needs. The Medical Lead will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-bring of campers in a fun and inclusive environment.

 

As the Provincial Health Lead, you will:

·         Responsibilities:

·         Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of provincial health policies and programs.

·         Lead clinical governance initiatives and ensure consistent application of best practices across the healthcare system.

·         Collaborate with the Leadership team, stakeholders, and provincial health authorities to align clinical practices with broader healthcare goals.

·         Lead the identification of system improvements and quality assurance initiatives in collaboration with medical teams.

·         Oversee the quality and safety of clinical services delivered across provincial health facilities.

·         Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards for healthcare services.

·         Monitor and manage clinical resource utilization to optimize cost-effectiveness without compromising patient care.

·         Contribute to the development of the healthcare system's operational policies, procedures, and guidelines.

·         Participate in the recruitment, training, and development of healthcare personnel.

·         Lead the training of medical teams and individuals on the organizations medical policies and procedures, including emergency response.

·         Educate campers, residents, staff, and volunteers about health and safety practices.

·         Conduct comprehensive assessments of the Residents’ and Camper’s physical, emotional, and psychosocial health on admission and regularly thereafter.

·         Work closely with the camp's multidisciplinary team, including counselors and activity leaders, to integrate healthcare plans into daily camp routines.

·         In conjunction with Alberta Health Services (AHS), develop, implement, and regularly update individualized care plans based on resident assessments, preferences, and healthcare needs.

·         Administer medications, treatments, and interventions in accordance with physician orders and best practices.

·         Provide leadership and direction to other medical staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Health Care Aides (HCAs), ensuring proper care delivery.

·         Supervise and mentor nursing staff (both in person and remotely) to maintain high standards of care, promote professional development, and support teamwork.

·         Participate in shift handovers to ensure continuity of care and effective communication among the care team, as needed.

·         Ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents, falls, and any changes in resident status in a timely manner.

·         Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the healthcare team to provide updates on health status, treatment plans, and changes in condition.

·         Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and the broader care team to develop and review treatment plans.

·         Serve as a liaison between residents, their families, and the care team, advocating for residents' preferences and ensuring family members are well-informed.

·         Address and resolve issues and conflict in a collaboration manner with the team and other departments.

·         Provide immediate first aid and coordinate emergency medical services when necessary.

·         Conduct quarterly and annual reporting to AHS.

·         Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of all nursing interventions, assessments, and communications in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.

·         Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, accreditation standards, and the policies of the organization.

·         Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

·         Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alberta.

·         Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain).

·         5-8 years of experience working in a clinical setting.

·         Demonstrated experience in progressive leadership or management.

·         Experience working in a continuing care setting or a camp environment is an asset.

·         Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

·         Demonstrated experience in medication management, and chronic illness management.

·         Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

·         Ability to develop and implement care plans, and manage complex health conditions.

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with residents, families, and the healthcare team.

·         Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, with a focus on dignity and respect for residents.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

·         Knowledge of regulatory standards, infection control protocols, and health & safety practices.

 

Other:

·         The Provincial Health Lead position is 40 hours/week and reports to the Director of Impact.

·         This position will require a mix work at our Care Home in Edmonton, or at our camp property near Bragg Creek.

·         Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

·         This position is required to be on-call.

·         Valid Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is a requirement for this position.

·         A Police Information Check and a Vulnerable Sector Search are conditions of employment.
