SUMMARY: The Youth Hub Team Lead will work in coordination with the Program Manager to support the daily operations to ensure guests have access to basic needs and participate in system navigation services. They will be primarily responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing youth activities, collaborating with community providers to establish a well-supported access point for youth wishing to access cultural, primary health care, recreational, educational, emotional, employment and other specialist programs in a one stop service area at The Link. The Team Lead will provide supervision and training to the System Navigators, Youth Ambassadors, Volunteers and Practicum Students.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development, coordination and promotion of youth programs which target children and youth at risk between the ages of 12 to 29
  • Engage and maintain effective and close working relationships with other youth related services aiming to jointly plan strategies and share resources to achieve common outcomes for the benefit of youth. 
  • Facilitate the development and delivery of programs and activities tailored to meet the needs of aspirations of the youth. 
  • Support the ongoing operations of the Youth Hub.
  • Ensure food handling procedures and cleanliness are upheld at all times (e.g., bathrooms are cleaned hourly)
  • Facilitate youth input into decision making and governance processes that effect their participation in community life and the Youth Hub.
  • Manage and mentor the staff employed to work at the Youth Hub.
  • Maintain cultural identification and awareness within all activities.
  • Create an environment that is low barrier while providing supervision, skills building and structured youth programming.
  • Provide supervision and ongoing training to the System Navigators, Youth Ambassadors, Practicum Students and Volunteers at The Hub
  • Provide orientation, training, and leadership to casual staff, provide supervision and evaluate students performing practicum placements.
  • Scheduling of staff to ensure there are employees to meet the needs of the people we serve.
  • Maintain positive relationships with collateral agencies and community partners to advocate, collaborate to enhance programming, and link people we serve to other resources.
  • Ensure that Naatamooskakowin (Coordinated Access) principles are maintained and the service is available daily during Hub hours for community members to access.
  • Coordinate with other program areas across the organization to build a seamless access to supplementary programs, such as Clinical, Addiction Foundation of Manitoba, employment services, and Nurse Practitioner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or certificate in Child and Youth Care or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in front line work including outreach services, a combination of education and experience may be considered.  
  • Ability to provide high quality work while meeting deadlines within a demanding environment. 
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision. 
  • Strong sense of team, and has the capacity to build effective working relationships and partnerships with individuals, groups and organizations in the community. 
  • Excellent de-escalation and conflict resolution skills. 
  • Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, trauma, child sexual exploitation, addictions, justice and social issues and children's rights as per the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with community agencies for high risk children/youth in the Winnipeg area.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team, and highly skilled in engaging with variety of stakeholders on a daily basis while developing and maintaining positive and effective relationships
  • Organized and has a strong focus on deliverables and meeting deadlines while maintaining accuracy and a diplomatic approach to achieving goals.
  • Highly skilled in data collation and report generation

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

  • Willingness to obtain necessary training as per the organization's training policy including: Crisis De-escalation, Applied Suicide Intervention, Colonization Awareness and Child Development 
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C or willingness to obtain 
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months 
  • Valid driver's license and a personal vehicle to use for work is required for this role

SALARY: $47,000 to $52,000 per annum, dependent on qualifications. Includes paid vacation, sick leave, personal days and access to a benefit and pension plan when eligible. 

HOURS OF WORK: Full-time - 80 hours bi-weekly. This position is required to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
