Summary of Duties:
The Program Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and quality control of the Lil'wat Ways of Healing from Trauma program, which focuses on trauma healing through traditional wellness methods and clinical services. This role ensures continuity of care, including trauma-informed practices, outreach, and crisis response services, with a priority on supporting the healing of First Nations and Aboriginal individuals and families. The Program Manager plays a key role in enhancing the overall mental health and wellness services for the community.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
· Work collaboratively with First Nations and Aboriginal partners to ensure programs are community-driven, reflecting local needs and priorities. Ensure culturally appropriate service delivery that aligns with community expectations.
· Manage the full lifecycle of community-based trauma-informed therapies and traditional wellness programs, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
· Develop and nurture trusted working relationships with leaders in Health Authorities, First Nations communities, and other partners. Collaborate to implement joint solutions for improved health and wellness outcomes.
· Develop and oversee communication strategies and content delivery in partnership with the Health Director. Ensure clear, timely, and culturally appropriate communications with stakeholders, addressing any issues proactively.
· Lead the development and implementation of processes to improve reporting, measurement, quality assurance, and the long-term sustainability of services provided by the program.
· Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including health and wellness system partners, to define program scope, deliverables, and evaluation criteria. Coordinate the allocation of resources, including staff, contractors, and operational budgets.
· Advocate on behalf of communities to develop joint solutions that address local health and wellness needs. Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery and implement approved recommendations.
· Lead meetings and discussions with internal staff and key stakeholders within regional health systems to ensure alignment of work plans and health and wellness programs. Foster teamwork and collaboration across the organization.
· Manage program budgets, contracts, and vendors, ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective use of resources.
· Maintain a thorough understanding of mental wellness practices, particularly as they relate to Indigenous populations. Stay informed of current programs, services, and best practices for mental health and trauma-informed care.
· Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Health Director.
Experience and Attributes:
· A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· At least 8 years of experience in mental health program management and planning, with specific experience in trauma-informed care and traditional wellness practices.
· Project management (PM) and change management (CM) skills: This role involves overseeing initiatives that require both PM and CM expertise.
· Demonstrated experience in responding to mental health emergencies and applying trauma-informed practices.
· Proven track record of working with First Nations and Aboriginal communities to address mental wellness and provide culturally sensitive care.
· Experience in providing expert advice and recommendations regarding mental wellness to practitioners and clients.
· Extensive knowledge of health and wellness governance in First Nations health, particularly regarding mental wellness and trauma-informed care.
· Understanding of mental health and wellness needs facing BC First Nations, as well as relevant programs and services available.
· Familiarity with the principles of mental wellness, suicide prevention, and mental health emergency response.
· Strong ability to inspire, influence, and lead teams to achieve organizational objectives.
· In-depth knowledge of First Nations culture and a commitment to cultural safety, humility, and respect.
· Excellent judgment and the ability to make informed decisions based on a thorough analysis of relevant data.
· Analytical mindset with the ability to address challenges effectively and implement appropriate solutions.
· Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with others, and promote a collaborative environment.
