ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Appleby College’s Summer Boarding Program welcomes participants from around the world with diverse languages and backgrounds. Participants attend Appleby College to enhance their English language skills and experience Canada.
The Summer Boarding Program mirrors the Appleby College student experience, giving participants a true sense of life as an Appleby student. Participants live in boarding, attend ESL classes, summer enrichment camp courses, or day programming, and take part in extracurricular activities and off-campus excursions. The Assistant Program Director, Summer Boarding Programs, is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Appleby College’s Summer Boarding Programs. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs, this position assists with activity preparation, general program support, and safe delivery of all residential and recreational components of the program. The Program Assistant works collaboratively with all Boarding Staff and leadership staff to promote teamwork, collaboration, and active participation while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all international participants.

Program Planning and Development
- Assist the Program Director, Summer Boarding Programs in enhancing program quality through program planning
- Assist with creating activity resources to follow program themes, weekly schedules, and evening activities set by the Program Director & Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and risk management procedures in all program operations.
- Support in creating and facilitating pre-season and ongoing staff training sessions focused on program facilitation, participant well-being, and staff engagement
Leadership and Supervision
- In the absence of the Program Director, serve as the on-site lead during program operations, acting as the primary point of contact and responding to all incidents in accordance with Appleby College policies and procedures
- Support Boarding staff in delivering a variety of program plans and supporting with facilitation techniques for participants.
- Promote a positive, encouraging, and respectful environment that reflects Appleby’s values of cooperation and mutual respect.
- Communicate effectively with the Program Director and Boarding staff regarding participant needs or behavioural concerns.
- Help maintain program documentation and assist with attendance and activity records as directed.\
- Participate in all required pre-summer training, daily meetings, and post-season evaluations
Program Delivery and Participant Experience
- Supervise participants during activities, mealtimes, excursions, and on-campus events to ensure safety and engagement.
- Assist with the setup, organization, and cleanup of daily Summer Boarding activities.
- Monitor participation and provide encouragement to foster confidence and team spirit.
- Assist with the organization and distribution of program equipment, ensuring supplies are in good condition.
- Follow all Appleby College policies, including Appleby’s Mutual Respect Policy and health and safety procedures.
YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:
- Have leadership experience in an overnight camp or residential/recreational setting.
- Possess strong skills and experience working with children and youth ages 10–17.
- Have experience teaching or leading a staff team in a camp or educational environment.
- Demonstrate exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Are confident and comfortable leading games, group activities, and community-building events.

WORK SCHEDULE
Pre-Summer Training Days:
- June 2, 9, 16 2026 – 8:00am to 4:00pm
- Move In, Training & Orientation June 22–24, 2026
Program Session Dates & Hours

June 25 – August 23, 2026
Weekly evenings and weekends, five days per week 2 consecutive mid-week days off per week (Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday) - Weekday On-Duty Hours (Hours may vary):
- Morning Duty: 7:30am to 9:30am
- OFF: 9:30am to 3:00pm
- Afternoon On-Duty Rotation: 3:30 to 11:00pm (Break schedule varies)
- Weekend On-Duty hours vary based on weekly excursion schedule.
