Your Role 

This role is essential in creating moments of comfort, community, and relief for families navigating their child’s medical journey. By coordinating meaningful programs, stewarding volunteers, and fostering a warm, supportive environment, the Program Coordinator ensures families experience joy, connection, and care during some of their most challenging days. Your work directly strengthens the sense of belonging and compassion at the heart of every Ronald McDonald House, making a lasting difference in the well‑being of families we serve. 

 

This is not a standard Monday-Friday role. Shifts can vary between daytime and evening hours and include weekend work. Schedules are set monthly. 

 

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Work with the Program Supervisor on monthly programming schedules 

  • Work with volunteers to ensure the delivery of scheduled programs 

  • Complete program evaluations & bring suggestions on ways to provide high quality programming to families  

  • Develop and implement goals, objectives and strategies for the volunteer program team that reflect the mission of the organization 

  • Use volunteer resources to support the unique needs of our families, develop and provide a broad range of activities that provide relaxation and fun 

  • Promote and build upon a sense of community within families, within the House and broader community by developing a positive, compassionate, supportive, and engaging environment 

  • Work with the Program Supervisor to creatively provide and prepare special occasions around holidays within a multi-cultural community atmosphere  

  • Collaborate and provide communication and assistance to the other departments to ensure smooth operation and delivery of high-quality family programming  

  • Support Program Supervisor to maintain budget and track expenditures to ensure programs are operating within their allocated budget 

  • Provide orientation and day of assistance & stewardship to all local Home for Dinner groups, Helping Hands groups, and non-department specific local volunteers including shuttle, recreation, rejuvenation & baking 

  • Maintain and order craft or programming supplies as needed  

  • Provide tours of the House  

  • Act as an ambassador of Ronald McDonald House Alberta within the community 

 

 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma is mandatory.  

  • Some post-secondary in a relevant human services field is preferred.  

  • Strong interpersonal skills; capable of working with people and families with varied backgrounds. 

  • Experience working in a human service-related field. 

  • Experience working with children and families is an asset.  

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.  

  • Ability to flexibly complete tasks based on priority, problem solve and use critical thinking skills 

  • Experience in program and volunteer planning and/or coordination 

  • Proven experience in proficiently managing programs with excellent service delivery standards 

  • Strong ability to communicate verbally and written (English is the business language), additional language skills are an asset 

  • A self-starter with demonstrated experience utilizing volunteers to enhance programs and services within a non-profit organization 

  • Strong computer skills with experience working with a database software that may include volunteer or development databases such as VolunteerHub or Raiser’s Edge 

  • Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certification 

  • Valid Food Safety Certificate  

  • Valid WHMIS Certificate  

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed 

  • Must provide a clear criminal record check
