SUMMARY:

U.M. FDSP Associates is a non-profit affiliate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.  U.M. FDSP Associates is the organization that provides patient care focused staffing for the clinic operations so that faculty and students may provide patient care to the general public

 

We offer paid vacation, sick leave, personal days, and 17 Federal paid holidays. Additionally, we offer medical, dental, vision, short term disability, long term disability, and life insurance benefits.  We also offer 401K with an employer match up to six percent. Hours of operation are Monday thru Friday with no weekends. In addition we have the entire winter holiday including Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving, and the week from Christmas Day until New Years Day and off.

 

The Program Assistant provides administrative support for dental clinic operations.  The person in this position will register new patients, including obtaining all personal and insurance information, schedule and confirm appointments, accept all patient payments, and work directly with patients, residents, pre-doctoral students, faculty, and staff to facilitate the needs of the practice.
  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Responsible for accepting all incoming calls to the main AEGD phone line and managing patient communication whenever necessary.
 
2.      Provides excellent customer service to patients upon arrival and departure of all appointments.
 
3.      Schedules all appointments including emergencies as they arise.  Confirms appointments with patients for the next business day.
 
4.      Obtains insurance pre-authorization of coverage.  Informs patient of all current charges and any previous balance due before any service is rendered. 
 
5.      Requests payment for any procedures in accordance with the University of Maryland Dental School's policies and procedures guidelines. Responds to inquiries about patient's account.
 
6.      Processes all payment transactions including receiving checks and processing credit card transactions.
 
7.      Reconciles receipts with axiUm ledger and deposits receipts into the night deposit box daily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1 - 3 years’ related experience.  Related education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. 

 

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:Knowledge of standard office procedures; must be able to operate computer and other office machines, such as fax, calculator, answering telephones; detail oriented; friendly and patient attitude with patients and interpersonal relationships; effective communicator; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
