Production/Midstream Accountant
Canlin Energy is looking for a motivated Production Accountant who wants to grow into a Midstream Accounting role. This position supports midstream accounting for all operated assets and is a great fit for someone with strong production accounting experience, solid Metrix skills, and an interest in learning midstream operations with guidance from experienced mentors.
We’re looking for someone detail‑oriented, eager to learn, and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment. You’ll receive hands‑on mentorship from senior midstream accountants while taking on meaningful work that builds your technical and operational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Full cycle production & revenue accounting for AB Operated gas plant and non-operated properties
- Monthly review and reconciliation of accounts receivable.
- Assist with reviewing and processing amendments.
- Assist in external audit queries related to production, royalties, revenue, and transportation.
- Review JV and facility agreements to identify and apply the appropriate midstream, processing, transportation, and marketing fees.
- Support midstream accounting for operated gas plants, pipelines, batteries, and related infrastructure.
- Maintain and update Metrix master data, including midstream fees and facility charge details.
- Validate pipeline and facility flow paths, allocations, shrinkage, fuel, flare, and deductions.
- Work with Measurement, Operations, Engineering, and Marketing to confirm volumes, dispositions, and fee applications.
- Generate and analyze reports using Optix, Metrix, Excel, and other reporting tools to ensure correctness of monthly processing fees.
- Support stakeholders by responding to and resolving their questions or concerns.
- Identify workflow improvements, automation opportunities, and data accuracy initiatives.
- Build strong working relationships across the organization.
Experience & Skills
- Strong production accounting background with 5 to 10 years' experience
- Has a strong working knowledge of Metrix
- Interest in developing expertise in midstream accounting, pipeline flows, and facility operations.
- Strong analytical skills and intermediate to advanced Excel capability (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Ability to interpret data, identify discrepancies, and support financial analysis.
- Familiarity with Qbyte FM, Avocet, EnergyLink, Petrotranz, Petrinex, and Microsoft Office is an asset.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
Education
- CAPPA certification preferred or in progress.
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field is an asset.
