The LEAD HAND position is a working lead among the employees in the plant and will be the first contact for co-workers on any work-related issues.  The position requires working closely with the production manager to ensure efficient and safe operation of the plant.  The position requires leadership, reliability, punctuality, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and make decisions.  

Responsibilities of Lead Hand:

•  Promote and maintain and a safe work environment in compliance with OHS regulations.  In Case of Emergency take the proper actions with safety and management
•  Follow all company policies and procedures, be a positive example for all others to follow
•  Overview plant start-up and shut down when necessary
•  Maintain accurate information and records as defined by management where applicable
•  Troubleshoot minor issues and problems with equipment, work closely with support staff such as millwrights and management by communicating effectively and resolving issues
•  Ensure production goals are met and the bales produced are of quality and proper yield, communicate and make changes as required.
•  Ensure every employee is operating machinery and forklifts as intended, along with assisting in training of new employees
•  Identify and report negative impact issues and support continuous improvement efforts with management
•  Promote good housekeeping practices
•  Facilitate regular team communication and motivate staff to complete assigned tasks
•  Experience operating various types of mobile equipment - forklift, loader, skid steer
•  Able to work under pressure 
•  Other duties as assigned
