Job Summary

  • A Produce Merchandiser is responsible for leading the Ideal Market’s growth initiative for selling the finest fresh produce. His position requires a wide range of skills from high-level thinking to tactical category development. In this role, the candidate will develop new accounts and expand the presence of Ideal Market in the fresh produce category.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Consistently research the marketplace for new opportunities, and stay current with competitor performance within the market.
  • Responsible for assisting and making recommendations to procurement, operation and training departments to ensure the Fresh Produce category is on track with growth targets.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Purchasing Department with seasonal product sourcing.
  • Responsible for creating and executing training sessions to increase the education and ability level of the Produce Department.
  • Teach handling and care product; effectively working with allocate space, merchandising techniques, etc.
  • Provide regular feedback to ensure continuous development in improving and enhancing the team to achieve company growth objective.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory to meet customer demand while maximizing inventory turns and controlling shrink.
  • Provide timely and effective communication with Sales Department including but not limited to market conditions, product quality and availability, new items, and applications.
  • Review daily financials and utilize strategic pricing strategies to ensure profitability and sales growth targets are being met or exceeded and profit plan realized.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of fresh produce and seasonality
  • Must know and understand produce department layouts
  • Customer Service Oriented
  • Creativity, innovation, and flexibility is a must
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Serve as a role model for outstanding execution of company changes
  • Team player, self-motivated, and independent thinker
  • Travel as needed
