Primary Focus:

The Process Engineer is an integral position within the Technical Services Team of Canlin Energy’s Canadian Operations. The Process Engineer, Facility Engineers and Asset Integrity Technician’s, along with Administrative Support and other Corporate Technical Advisors (related to measurement, turnarounds and pipeline/equipment integrity) form the Technical Services department, reporting to the Senior Facilities Engineering Manager.  The team provides technical, compliance, process safety, measurement, turnaround, engineering, and integrity related support in both the local operations and corporate settings. The Technical Services mission is to be a team of versatile professionals whose focus is to lead safe design, reliable operation, and regulatory compliance throughout the lifecycle of Canlin’s assets.

The Process Engineer is required to provide day to day engineering assistance to Operations, support various prioritized projects relating to the existing surface facilities and pipeline networks, and complete process evaluations and studies for facility optimization.

Field related travel and work will be required and may occur on a regular and unplanned basis. 

 

Accountabilities:

       Support the Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams in the implementation of process optimization and loss avoidance activities.

       Provide process support for operational startups, shutdowns, turnarounds, hazard assessments, turndown, energy efficiency, Management of Change (MOC), and procedure development.

       Troubleshoot process related Operational and Maintenance problems related to the facilities.

       Oversee/own plant models/simulations and associated tools.

       Maintain Process related Process Safety Information (i.e. process flow diagrams).

       Provide process engineering support for all corporate and field based major Process Safety activities such as PHA (HAZOP, LOPA).

       Authenticate or outsource oversight of any internal or external Process Engineering Professional Work Product.

       Promote a safety leadership culture and assist in incident investigation and root cause analysis as required.

       Instruct field stakeholders in the implementation of changes to Process or Asset operating conditions.

       Work closely with Field Leaders to understand needs of the area and opportunities for improvement.

       Utilize and foster productive relationships with contracted Third-Party Engineering firms and other Vendors.

       Uphold Canlin’s Engineering processes/standards and Personnel and Process Safety initiatives.

       Interface with the other engineering teams within Operations Engineering, and support teams in Calgary (such as JV, Finance, Surface Land, HSE, etc.).

       Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Corporate and Industry Standards. 

       Foster a behavior of personal development. 

       Engage internal or external assistance when working outside of individuals “Area of Expertise”.

       Conduct weekly reporting and tracking of progress to yearly Goal/Action plan.

 

Organizational Dimensions/Scope

This position supports operations in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. There will be significant interface with the wider Canlin Energy community particularly in the fields of Process Safety, Operations, Engineering, Asset Integrity, Finance, and Health, Safety and Environment (HSER).

The Process Engineering role will provide oversight on Process related tasks to both Calgary staff and field staff across all Canlin Energy locations.

This role is corporately-based and will require some field travel.

Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Engineering Degree (preferably Process or Chemical), with a minimum of 10 years related experience in oil and gas operations.
  2. Professional Engineering status in Alberta and BC, or eligible to register.
  3. Experience in Upstream Oil and Gas Process Operations (plant, equipment, pipelines, maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization), project management, estimating, scheduling, construction practices, personnel and process safety.
  4. Strong knowledge of process optimization, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  5. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Symmetry) and engineering tools.
  6. Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g. AER, OGC, ABSA, ASME, CSA, and OH&S).
  7. Understanding of Process Safety Management including Management of Change, Risk Analysis, Process Knowledge Management and Process Safety Information.
  8. Experience in both field & corporate aspects of Engineering Support within the Oil and Gas sector would be an asset.
  9. Awareness of the process, operational, and maintenance aspects of upstream operations, equipment, and terminology.
  10. Independent and self-supporting work habits, as well as an ability to lead and work with teams.
  11. Possess both a technical skill sets as well as a practical mindset.
  12. Ability to multitask and prioritize work; as well as manage multiple customers in a fast-paced changing environment with a focus on safe and efficient project delivery.
  13. Enthusiastic, adaptable, and respectful of others.
  14. Good organizational, leadership, stakeholder management, presentation, and people engagement skills.
  15. Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to think differently.
  16. Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
  17. Certification in H2S alive, First Aid, WHMIS, and Safe Driving
