Pool Manager/Lifeguard
The Professional Lifeguard is an essential member of the aquatics team and is tasked with both patron safety and facility maintenance. Lifeguards act as first responders in emergency situations and practice preventative lifeguarding, which involves enforcing the rules and policies of the aquatics facility with the goal of preventing emergency situations before they happen. The right candidate for this position can work up to 40 hours a week, including weeknight and weekend shifts, and is able to assist the Aquatics Director and additional staff in maintaining the safety of the aquatic facilities, supervising the lifeguard staff, and work lifeguard shifts in the absence of regular part-time lifeguard staff.
Job Requirements: 35-40 hours/week; early morning, weeknight, and weekend shifts ARE REQUIRED
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have High School Diploma/General Educational Development
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or be willing/able to obtain within first 90-days of employment
- Thorough knowledge and application of American Red Cross/YMCA lifeguard rescue techniques and surveillance, CPR and AED
- Commitment to excellence in customer service including ability to educate patrons of facility programs and events in a positive manner
- Understand, apply, and enforce facility rules, policies, and procedures
- Ability to maintain open communication among staff
- Ability to work as part of a team to provide services to the YMCA community
- Ability to work one-on-one and in large groups with children and adults
- Excellent decision-making skillsResponsibilities:
- Responsible for patron and pool surveillance with the goal of accident prevention
- Monitor head lifeguards and lifeguard staff during aquatics programming and regular hours of operation and assign tasks as necessary
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies following the YMCA Emergency Action Plan; direct aquatics staff as needed
- Oversee aquatics staff in conducting facility maintenance, cleanliness, appearance, and proper water chemistry
- Completes reports involving program participants or incidents that require follow-up to Aquatics Director; follows proper incident procedures before opening pool back up to patrons
- Communicate suggestions, concerns, or required maintenance needs to the Aquatics Director
- Assist in planning and development, and participate in monthly in-service training
- Assist in tracking equipment, staff, and pool maintenance inventory
- Fulfills requests of the Aquatics Director pertaining to management and programming during special events and regular operating hours
- Serves as substitute lifeguard during aquatics programs and regular operating hours
- Responsible for health and safety of members and staff during all aspects of aquatic programming and regular operating hours in the absence of the Aquatic Director
- Promotes all aquatics and YMCA programs
