People and Culture Intern

Onsite, Downtown Toronto

Contract, End Date September 2024


Purpose of role:

The People and Culture Intern role is a mix of HR strategy and administrative support.  The internship will provide experience primarily in collaborating with team members to optimize all aspects of the employee lifecycle including Recruitment, Selection, Administration and Training and Development.  However, if you are eager and willing to learn, this is a great opportunity for you to assist with numerous HR projects while developing a wide range of skills as they relate to the full scope of human resources.  

Responsibilities:

  • Process new hire paperwork
  • Maintain confidential records for staff and new hires
  • Check HR inbox
  • Plan, coordinate and implement recruitment activities including relationships with resources media
  • Responsible for design and placement of job postings.  Maintain Agency web site postings
  • Screen resumes and employment applications
  • Conduct phone screening
  • Schedule, coordinate and participate in conducting interviews
  • Assist with thorough selection process and keep accurate interview and evaluation records
  • Conduct reference checks, summarizing the information and make recommendations for hiring
  • Identify and implement innovative and effective recruitment and selection strategies and make recommendations
  • Prepare HR reports
  • Facilitate successful on-boarding of new employees
  • Assist with training projects, including training administration
  • Provide support to volunteer services as needed
  • Ad hoc HR projects
  • Other duties as required


Qualifications :

  • Current enrollment or recently graduated student in a relevant postsecondary or postgraduate program with a focus on HR Management
  • Attention to detail
  • Eager to learn and take initiative
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, tact and professionalism
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Excellent planning, organization and prioritizing skills
  • Positive, friendly and helpful approach to work
  • Solid knowledge of and practical experience with MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check
