Payroll Administrator

Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) operates and maintains the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay Bridges, facilitating over 34 million crossings annually.  Reporting to the Finance Controller, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for preparing and processing the biweekly payroll for all staff (union and non-union).  The Payroll Administrator is part of the larger finance team and supports the team by assisting with accounts payable processing and reconciling financial accounts, as required.

The successful candidate is accountable for:

 

- Ensuring all employees are paid correctly with proper deductions for each pay period, in compliance with relevant laws, regulations or standards and ensuring these amounts are allocated to the proper departments.

- Provides and maintains an electronic copy of all payroll records for each pay period per organizational processes.

- Processes statutory deduction remittances promptly, verifying accuracy of deductions and account coding by HHB requirements, and responds to client or payer account inquiries as required.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date payroll accounting journals, receivable sub-ledgers, monthly account reconciliations, and other records detailing financial business transactions.

Assists in the preparation of payroll departmental budgets and projections as required

- Process new hires and re-hires, rate changes, and terminations.

 Administers employee benefit plans as required, including the pension plan.

Preparation of year-end reports, including T4s.

Familiarity with collective agreements.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: The successful candidate will demonstrate a combination of 2 years’ relevant work experience and/or educational qualifications. Experience with Payworks software and the general ledger software package Great Plains GP2013 is considered an asset. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required.  Must be able to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment, exercise attention to detail, develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and possess strong communication skills with discretion for confidential matters. 


Salary range: $46,787 to $ 58,484 | Hiring 1 position | Full-time, Permanent, Non-Union | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM (35 hours per week)
