Part-time School Programs Instructor
Maryland Science Center is seeking an enthusiastic educator for School Programs Instructor position. Instructors will present hands-on STEM classroom programs to visiting school groups. Applicant should be flexible, enthusiastic, and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment. There may be opportunities to assist in the development and implementation of additional educational programming.
Basic Functions:
· Present 45-minute classes on a variety of STEM topics to students PreK-grade 12 (primarily elementary and early middle school)
· Prepare and maintain materials, supplies, and classroom spaces
· Communicate professionally with teachers and chaperones
Knowledge of:
· Basic science concepts
· Informal elementary education
Skills:
· Classroom management
· Utilize technology in preparation and presentation
· Flexibility for diverse groups and student needs
Abilities:
· Execute a lesson plan
· Clearly communicate STEM topics
· Feel comfortable presenting in front of groups
· Provide excellent guest service
Education: Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or related field preferred. Experience in informal education/STEM instruction may be substituted for education.
Basic Requirements: Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Pay: $15.50/hour
Hours: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm, 1-2 days per week, Tuesday-Friday
