Industrial Operations Manager

Position Summary
We are seeking a results-driven and hands-on Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day yard operations and drive performance through data-informed decision-making. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in scrap metal recycling, with experience managing staff, equipment, safety protocols, and logistics, along with the ability to analyze operational metrics and identify process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Yard Operations & Team Management
• Oversee daily operations of the scrap metal yard, including receiving, sorting, processing, and shipping of materials
• Supervise and lead yard staff, equipment operators, and supervisors
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
• Monitor equipment usage and coordinate maintenance schedules to maximize uptime
• Implement and enforce operating procedures and quality control standards

Operational Planning & Analytics
• Analyze production and operational data to identify trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for improvement
• Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for yard efficiency, material throughput, safety, and cost control
• Collaborate with procurement and sales teams to align operational capacity with demand forecasts and inventory targets
• Support budgeting and cost analysis to improve margins and manage expenditures

Process & Continuous Improvement
• Recommend and implement process improvements to increase productivity and reduce waste
• Support the integration of new equipment, technology, and systems to enhance efficiency and traceability
• Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives to streamline workflows and improve interdepartmental collaboration

Leadership & Communication
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Train, coach, and mentor yard supervisors and frontline staff
• Communicate operational updates, changes, and performance results to senior leadership

Customer Relations
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business
• Act as the main point of contact for customer inquiries, addressing concerns and resolving issues promptly

Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably in the scrap metal, recycling, manufacturing, or heavy industrial sector
• Strong working knowledge of yard equipment is a benefit (e.g., shears, balers, loaders, shredder, material handlers)
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data, develop reports, and make fact-based decisions
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills
• Familiarity with health & safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality systems
• Post-secondary education in business, operations, or engineering is an asset
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and operational systems (e.g., Workhub, Mayer, Beanworks, MaintainX) is an asset
