Occupational Safety, Security, and Health Manager

This is a remote role Full-time $85000.00-$100000.00/year

Northumberland Ferries Limited, a regional leader in the transportation industry, is seeking an Occupational Safety, Security, and Health Manager.

PRIMARY PURPOSE 

The OSSH Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and oversight of Safety, Security, Health, and Environmental procedures and programs. This role supports corporate compliance with external (Canada, USA, International) and internal regulatory requirements, standards, and best practices.  This role will spend a great deal of time onboard vessels, at terminals and other applicable worksites. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Occupational Health, including WHMIS, HazCom, exposure control, ergonomics, and permitting (lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hotwork, etc)
  • Steer Operational Safety, including JHA, PTW, PPE, first aid, and related committees
  • Guide Security Management, including ISPS, and security improvement planning
  • Lead Occupational Security, including CCTV, alarms, conflict de-escalation, and threat mitigation
  • Provide emergency response and contingency management support, including ICS drills and exercises
  • Oversee, monitor and report on regulatory compliance and assurance
  • Manage and facilitate OSSH investigations, risk assessments and auditing
  • Other related responsibilities, as required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience as captain or chief engineer of a vessel over 10,000GT on NC2, NC1 or international voyages; or as OIM in the domestic or international offshore industry, or as a senior safety officer role in the marine or equivalent industry.
  • University Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Maritime Management, Risk Management, Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with Management Systems certified to the ISM Code or to an ISO Standard.
  • Experience with Domestic Canadian, USA and International Regulatory Jurisdictions.
  • Knowledge of passenger ship operations, roll-on/off ferry operations is an asset.
  • Strong leadership abilities with influence for diverse process owners in a traditional maritime work environment.
  • Self-disciplined, meets or exceeds deadlines with quality work, and manages own time with integrity.

Due to the confidentiality, security obligations, and travel requirements of this position, a criminal record check and driver’s license may be required.

 WORKING CONDITIONS

This role will require frequent visits to vessels, terminals, and other company locations, primarily located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.  Therefore, preference will be given to applicants located in the Maritime provinces or those with noted plans to relocate to the area.  Incumbent can work from a home office setting and/or from one of the company’s office locations.  Occasional work outside of regular business hours will be required to address urgent OSSH matters, including overnight travel.

COMPENSATION

The anticipated salary range for this position is 85K to 100K.
