Avena Foods is actively seeking an Oat Cleaning Plant Operator to join our team at Rowatt, SK.  Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for inspecting incoming grain and ensuring the grain meets Avena’s quality specifications.  Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining records, communicating results, making process adjustments and facilitating transfers of finished products to Avena oat mills.  This position works in collaboration with the Cleaning Plant Coordinator.  However, this position is expected to also work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

1.      Collect and organize incoming truck delivery samples.

2.      Conduct tests on incoming oats and interpret results against company specifications.

3.      Make process adjustments to ensure cleaned oats meet specifications.

4.      Record and communicate test results to Cleaning Plant Coordinator.

5.      Prepare information for grain settlements, ensuring records accurately reflect the correct weight, moisture, and contamination content.

6.      Maintain a clean working environment that complies with Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety System Certification specifications.

7.      Maintain equipment within the facility.

8.      Assist with loading outbound shipments of grain and byproducts.

9.      Compliance with Food Safety policies and procedures.

10.  Perform regular samples on product in process, send samples for analytical testing and document all data for use in Certificates of Analysis.

11.  Assist the Cleaning Plant Coordinator in completing corrective actions.

12.  Ensure that production daily package and other FSQMS records are complete and accurate. This includes follow-up on incomplete or inaccurate records by retrieving missing information, interviewing staff, and determining root cause. File all verified records and perform data entry where necessary.

13.  General cleanup inside and outside the process area.

14.  Communication and coordination with the oat mill.

15.  Other duties as required. 

Skills:

·         Knowledge of HACCP principles and prevalent food safety and quality standards is preferred.

·         Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and follow through on them.

·         Ability to work independently and in as team with minimal supervision.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills that enhance inter-departmental interactions.

·         Good logical problem-solving; Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

·         Willing to be flexible on schedule; ability to meet schedules and deadlines, including overtime as required

Qualifications:

Experience in grain handling or processing

*Employment is subject to successfully completing pre-employment checks which may include criminal record check, education verification and reference review.

*This is a shift position which may include evenings and weekends.  You may be required to work in ambient temperatures.  This position will require manual effort such as climbing ladders/stairs lifting materials, etc..
