Summary of Duties:
The Nurse Manager oversees the Community Health Nursing team to ensure that trauma informed community health nursing services are provided to the standard of Provincial and Federal nursing standards of practice. The Nurse Manager provides hands-on clinical nursing services and back up support and vacation relief for Community Health Nurses (Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses).

 

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

Program Management & Leadership

  • Supervises staff, including recruiting, hiring, directing, supporting, evaluating, identifying training and personal wellness plans, disciplining and termination.
  • Oversees the delivery of the communicable disease control (CDC) program including communicable disease surveillance, an immunization program, outbreak management, TB screening, HIV/AIDS, screening, community education about communicable disease and documentation and reporting.
  • Oversees the delivery of community health services including health and wellness promotion, illness and injury prevention, harm reduction, screening and advance planning related to end-of-life care.
  • Ensures professional staff practice within the scope of practice as defined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and Líl'wat Health & Healing.
  • Ensures that a culturally safe, trauma-informed approach is incorporated into service delivery.
  • Ensures client files are maintained according to professional standards and include all required information.
  • Develops annual operational work plans.
  • Planning department budgets and financial reporting
  • Tracks and reports monthly and annual program activity.
  • Seeks regular feedback from clients to inform the program service delivery planning.
  • Follows up on client complaints.
  • Works with other Lil’wat Health & Healing managers, assesses and evaluates service delivery and identifies ways in which the Community Health Nursing team will contribute to overall health programming.
  • Works with other Líl'wat Nation departments and develops external partnerships including but not limited to First Nation Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health services and the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Develops and implements effective, comprehensive communication strategies to promote Community Health Nursing programs and services to the community.
  • Works with the contracted service providers and other Líl'wat Health & Healing departments to schedule clinic days and spaces, promote clinics to community, schedule client appointments, track, and report monthly and annual participation activity (by service provider), and problem solve issues that arise.
  • Work with the contracted service providers to ensure services are provided according to contractual agreement.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Clinical Care

  • Carry-out communicable disease control activities.
  • Administer immunizations as per the BCCDC immunization schedule.
  • Develop community health-related educational materials.
  • Provide one-to-one, group and community-wide health-related support.

Experience and Attributes:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Competent to administer immunizations according to the standard as set by the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
  • Extensive experience in public health nursing across the lifespan including maternal and newborn health, infant, child and youth health, mental wellness, addictions, and harm reduction.
  • Experience in elder health, chronic disease management and injury prevention. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience. Or a combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year in a management role.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector
  • Valid driver’s license and driver's abstract.
