Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Center Manager, this position provides service/support through a variety of means, including but not limited to:  classroom assistance/coverage, child supervision, nutrition assistance, and bus monitor.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing and serving meals to children; including breakfast, lunch, and snack.
  • Responsible for following the menu guidelines and adhering to allergy menus and instructions provided by the Health Nutrition Coordinator.
  • Responsible for maintaining food and supplies and submitting food orders to the Health Nutrition Coordinator.
  • Responsible for ensuring all monthly nutrition reports are accurate and submitted to the Health Nutrition Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring the food service area and equipment are maintained according to Health and Sanitation standards.
  • Responsible for assisting in all areas of the Center, including but not limited to, the classroom, bus monitoring, or other duties as deemed necessary by the Center Manager.
  • Responsible for supervising children at all times by providing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Responsible for assisting with preparing materials and activities for individual children and small or large groups in a classroom setting as part of the curriculum.
  • Responsible for attending meetings/training sessions to enhance job performance.

Compliance and Reporting:

  1. Responsible for maintaining compliance with Agency Policy and Procedures, Administration for Children and Families Performance Standards, and North Carolina Day Care Rules and Regulations.

  2. Establish and monitor services that ensure program quality and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.

  3. Responsible for reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (*whether witnessed or made aware of) to the immediate supervisor (Center Manager) and/or Head Start/EHS Director within one hour of activity.

  4. Responsible for maintaining training hours as directed by the Division of Child Development and Day Care Licensing requirements through Agency pre-service and in-service, workshops, conferences, etc. (as applicable to position).

  5. Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality, seamless customer service.

    Environmental Health and Safety  (Center-Based Staff):

  1. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a safe, clean, healthy and productive work environment.

  2. Responsible for adhering to NC Sanitation regulations (i.e. floors cleaned, trash cans covered, water temperature maintained, and equipment sanitized).

  3. Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate procedure for mixing sanitation solution (*If applicable)

  4. Demonstrate knowledge of center safety requirements (tornado, fire drills, fire extinguisher inspection, and fire inspections).

  5. Responsible for following emergency preparedness plan and procedures

Parent and Community Engagement:

  1. Work in association with the Center Manager, Family Development Specialist, or other designated partner to support center-based recruitment activities/plans.

  2. Actively work to identify and support volunteer efforts/engagement that promotes HS/EHS programs and children 

Professional Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for adhering to professional development plan including renewal of annual credentials (*which are required for continued employment in this position)

  2. Follow all agency, program, and state/federal guidelines

  3. Must be able to periodically attend out of town conferences and training sessions as needed

Qualifications:

Minimum:           NC Early Childhood Credential; previous experience in food preparation; good oral, written, and organization skills; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred:            Knowledge and Experience with Child Nutrition guidelines and Head Start Performance Standards; and above minimum qualifications.

The following are frequent, repetitive physical demands that typically occur on a daily basis in this role.  Physical activities include, but may not be limited to:
