We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Support Assistants (MSA) to join our team at the Sheridan VA Medical Center.

Position Overview

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) provides critical administrative and scheduling support to ensure Veterans receive timely, coordinated, and high-quality care. This role requires professionalism, accuracy, and excellent customer service skills while representing both Veterans Engineering and the VA in a positive and proactive manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, follow-ups, and communications.
  • Work closely with the Lead Scheduler and scheduling/reception team to ensure efficiency and compliance with VA standards.
  • Process referrals and coordinate Veteran care with community providers when VA services are unavailable or delayed.
  • Enter and validate patient demographic information in VA systems (CPRS, VISTA, HSRM, PPMS).
  • Handle incoming phone calls and respond to inquiries regarding scheduling and services in a courteous, timely manner.
  • Assist in integrating health and administrative records into the VA’s electronic medical record systems.
  • Provide daily administrative support using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Deliver professional, respectful, and patient-centered customer service to Veterans, their families, and VA staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Veteran care and VA operations.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen/resident.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Ability to type at least 50 words per minute.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).
  • Minimum 6 months of customer service experience.
  • Must meet health, background, and security requirements as outlined by the VA.

Additional Information

  • This is a contracted position through Veterans Engineering in support of the VA. Selected candidates are not considered VA employees.
  • Travel may be required for fingerprinting, PIV card pick-up, and IT equipment.
