Medical Records Technician - Critical Access Hospital

Summary:  Functions as a Medical Records Technician including patient registration: As medical records technician, will be responsible for processing of medical records within the Health Information Management Department. Maintains the Radiology Reports in the proper format and sends to local providers. Provides customer support to all internal and external customers of the department. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.  Performs Release of Information as requested by patients, providers, insurance companies and other agencies as requested.  Maintains compliance with medical staff rules and regulations. Maintains Digital Patient Records (DPR) and scanning and other duties as assigned. This position may be asked to work at other NCCH-designated work location or sites as needed.

As Registration Clerk provide a smooth patient flow process by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, providing registration of patient and insurance information, obtaining required signatures following established processes, procedures and standards. Technician verifies insurance coverage, validates referrals and authorizations, collects patient liability and provides financial guidance to patients to maximize medical services reimbursement efforts. 

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Healthcare Support Services or designated administrator.

 Education and/or Experience:  High school diploma or equivalent.  One year of experience in a medical record setting preferred.  Experience working with computers.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Customer service skill and excellent written and verbal communication skill.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, and pharmacology preferred.

None Required
