Medical Records Specialist

Job DUTIES:

Birmingham Heart Clinic has an excellent opportunity for a Medical Records Specialist to join our team. The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for processing medical record requests and maintaining an organized and meaningful health record for patients, providers, and outside agencies while meeting regulatory standards for record management. The Medical Records Specialist is required to have an exceptional knowledge of HIPAA to ensure patient privacy, be diligent about confidentiality, and have exceptional organizational and computer skills.
  1. Accurate copying and provision of medical records
  2. Scanning and filing of medical record images into the electronic medical record (EMR/Nextgen)
  3. Manages the Medical Records Inbox
  4. Processes medical record requests originating from both internal and external customers
  5. Corrects unprocessed documents in EMR
  6. Maintain the HIPAA privacy and security standards.
  7. Assists in rotation of answering hospital consult line.
  8. Assists Scheduling team with overflow calls as needed.
  9. Other related duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Knowledge & Understanding of HIPAA
  • Knowledge & Understanding of Medical Records Rights to Access Policy
  • Excellent verbal, organizational and written communications skills
  • Ability to work autonomously but also with others in a team/group environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Scan papers in patient charts according to BHC standards.
  • Requires analytical skills, attention to detail, effective organization skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to self-direct with minimal supervision
