Medical Records Specialist
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Process medical records requests from attorneys, patients, hospitals, DA’s office, etc., via ChartSwap, email, mail, and Freshdesk
· Provide accurate and efficient management of medical records
· Follow up and documentation of medical records requests
· Ensure that the medical records are organized, accurate, and complete
· Create digital copies of paperwork and store the records electronically
· Safeguard patient records and ensure compliance with the HIPAA regulations
· Handle all incoming calls from the medical records line and assist in all queries
· Negotiate reduction requests
· Create, track, and send billing and medical records affidavits
· Ensure that policies and procedures are followed and enforced
· Respond to requests for medical records and billing reports timely
· Complete other job-related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
· Strong data entry skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Advanced organizational skills
· Attention to detail to ensure accuracy
· Familiarity with medical terminology
· Basic computer skills to scan, organize, and access electronic health records
· Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
· Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to handle sensitive patient information securely
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High school diploma or GED required
· Notary certification preferred
· Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a medical office setting preferred
· Release of information experience preferred
