Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist Float (Regional)
Location(s): Johnson City, TN + Southwest Virginia practice locations, as assigned
Job Type: Part-Time, Hourly, PRN
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver's License to travel to practice locations regionally
• Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred but not required
• Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy diploma program required
• Valid Phlebotomy Technician certification required
• Phlebotomy experience
• Previous experience in a clinical setting, preferably in behavioral health, addiction medicine, or primary care
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management abilities
• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
• Some knowledge of medical terminology, front-end and back-end medical office workflows
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Key Responsibilities:
• Reporting to assigned practice locations on designated days as needed
• Fills in and covers in cases of staff call-outs and where coverage is needed, regionally
• May be required to open and close the clinic including readying the clinic for patients, end-of-day cash count and bank deposit, end-of-day Daily Report, UDS Log, and Deposit Reports, where management is absent
• Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers with patient examinations, wellness assessments, and procedures
• Perform routine clinical tasks, including taking vital signs, drawing blood, and collecting laboratory specimens
• Support patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing lab specimens; disposing of contaminated supplies; telephone prescriptions to pharmacies; authorizing medication refills as directed by physician; drawing blood
• Greet and escort patients to examination rooms
• Obtain and document patient medical histories, current symptoms, and other relevant information
• Ensure patient confidentiality and maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
• Schedule appointments, follow-up visits, and coordinate referrals to specialists as needed
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families
• Check patients in, check patients out, verify insurance, collect patient copays
• Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and manage electronic communications
• Inventory medical and office supplies and place orders as necessary to ensure office is stocked before departure
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives
• Provide support in behavioral health interventions, including patient screenings, assessments, and follow-up care
• Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean and well-stocked with necessary supplies
• Maintain safe and secure work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
• Serve and protect the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, procedures, and all federal, state, and local requirements
• Enhance the health care facility’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
• Participates in community outreach activities, events, and health fairs
